Stuck close to Ishums' Reach

I'm currently at Oevasy TG-Y D0, 130.11 Ly from Ishum's Reach, and can't seem to find a way forward. I have a jump range of 52.1 Ly and enough jumponium to make 2 more level 3 boosts before I have to turn back, but I can't find any stars at all between here and Ishum's Reach. I may have just started out on the wrong path from Beagle Point, and am now up a dead end, but I thought I'd see if some of you explorers who've made that trip can tell me something I'm missing before I turn back. Any helpful hints would be gratefully appreciated.

Which side of Ishum's / Semotus Beacon are you on? The easiest way into it is to hook around the "west" side, if I recall. I think the longest jump from that side is about 84 ly.

You need to head south and then west before going north..

You're at the yellow dot..

Do yo know how to use the "orange hats"?

When you select a system, all nearby systems that can be reached with the current mass you have + the jumponium selected on the galaxy map will have an orange mark over them, like a hat. You can use it to plan your route. Bookmarks are great for this.

Keep in mind you need materials to get ther and the to get back. I suggest landing somewhere and collect a few more.

Great information

Thanks all of you for your advice. It's exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, it probably won't do me any good this time unless there are no more than 2 jumps longer than 78 Ly. Once I backtrack from where I am I'll only have enough material for 4 more grade 3 boosts (2 in and 2 out). I have plenty for lots of grade 1 and 2 but not much arsenic. I'm also not carrying an SRV, so no prospecting. I hadn't planned on any planetary exploration.

I'd actually never heard of Ishum's Reach until I was well into my current journey. When I left Jameson Memorial my plan was to fly to what I call The Top of the Galaxy (not really the highest above the galactic plane, but the highest star I could find directly "above" Sag A), then to Beagle Point, then to The Bottom of the Galaxy and then to some star at the extreme south end before returning home. Along the way somewhere I was looking up something about Beagle Point and stumbled on the fact that Ishum's Reach was actually the farthest reachable star to the north. So I thought I'd give it a go even though I hadn't really started out well prepared. If I don't make it I can't really be too disappointed, and there's always next time. :)

No I didn't know about the orange hats. Most places you go, all the stars seem to have them, so I never thought about what they mean. I was using the spider web lines that connect the places you're supposed to be able to reach. I just picked the ones that headed most directly toward my goal and kept going that way until I ended up here with no way forward. Anyway, thanks much. I'm sure this will help other intrepid explorers who try to make this trip in the future. I searched quite a bit to see if anyone had posted an actual step by step route before I left Beagle, but never found anything. This may be the best information out there. Allons

In case you need jumponium, both Beagle Point and the Semotus Beacon themself contain all the materials needed for jumponium.

IF anyone else is in the area and IF your piloting skills are good enough, you can scoop mats blasted out of rocks by another Cmdr. May be worth heading for the nearest 'green' system and putting out a call for assistance.

I'm a wee bit south to help at the moment but I'm sure there'll be plenty of volunteers. You may also consider putting out a Rat call as the Fuel Rats have been known to assist with mat collection....

Thanks to all of you for your generous offers of advice and help. I think I'll pass though on trying to scrounge up materials. I spent a whole day trying to manually plot a route and think I've exhausted all the possibilities. I'm pretty sure I can't make it with just 2 jumps longer than 78 ly. Am ready to be back on the road, so to speak. As I said, I hadn't really planned going to Semotus Beacon when I left, so I'm not that disappointed. This will be motivation to come back to this end of the galaxy another time, armed with more wisdom and appropriate gear for the task.

yeah but we can blast some arsenic from rocks and you scoop up with your cargo scoop

if you have shields its very easy.

alternatively when I went to ishums reach I only used one grade 3 with a range of 51ly for the 82.68LY jump, so if you can get back to beagle without using your grade 3s there are options for you.

i.e.

Myeia Thaa RI-B D13-1 --- Myeia Thaa QI-B D13-0 (58.70 Ly)
Myeia Thaa QI-B D13-1 --- Myeia Thaa UO-Z D13-0 (50.31 Ly)
Myeia Thaa UO-Z D13-0 --- Ceeckaea QK-C D14-0 (56.14 Ly)
Ceeckaea QK-C D14-0 --- Oevasy MA-A D0 (66.32 Ly)
Oevasy MA-A D0 --- Oevasy NA-A D0 (53.69 Ly)
Oevasy NA-A D0 --- Oevasy RG-Y D0 (82.68 Ly)
Oevasy RG-Y D0 --- Oevasy SG-Y D0 (50.10 Ly)

only one of them needs a grade 3, the rest are potentially grade 1s depending on your ship, you mention 52.1LY so that's 65.1ly with G1 perhaps you can squeeze the 66.32LY by dropping your fuel level?

First of all let me say, +reps for all of you for your advice and encouragement. I made it to Semotus Beacon yesterday and spent the night on the surface of Salome’s Reach. Also landed on Moon e (Oevasy SG-Y d0 B 9e) since, because of where the moons are in their orbits, it’s currently the farthest from Sol.

As I said in my last post, I’d gotten frustrated with trying to plot a route from Beagle Point using no more than two grade 3 boosts, and left. But, I was only about 1½ hrs. away when I saw your post giving me the right start of a route leading away from Semotus Beacon. So I got busy trying to work out the rest of the route, and, when I could, decided it was worth the time to turn back. I’m glad I did. Once again, thanks. I agree with BaldEagle. You’re all to be commended for your willingness to help a fellow explorer out.

Glad you made it Congrats, out of interest what ship? - there's still a few not been there
