LostWinds Stuck getting from Meadows to Mines

(I posted this as reply to someone else's thread which had your instructions on how to get past this point, then realized it should be a fresh thread)

I just started playing LostWinds (and with my current level of addiction, it looks like I'll need to get the next chapter).

I've been following a walkthrough to be sure I get all the stuff and some idea of the right order, but I'm getting stuck trying to get past the Meadows.
To get into the mine from the Meadows, I'm supposed to climb two rock towers (the second one has a feeding station) and jump across to a clearing above the mine entrance. Somehow, I can't make the jump.

Here's your instruction:
Travelling to the Mines
(5– The meadows )
The entrance back into the cave is at the top let side of the meadows. To reach this point climb on top of the pillars of rock that are over the river, then leap off the left side and onto the higher platform.
Proceed into the cave.

Is my wind technique a little off? I'm using an iPod Touch (late model) with a Zagg shield on the display. Could the Zagg shield be slowing it down?

I've no idea what a Zagg shield is, so maybe.

Have you tried a running jump, let Toku run off the edge then gust him as he starts falling, then gust again when he starts falling again.

I've often had times when I wanted a running start, but I'm not sure how to do it. Best guess I have is to get him auto-walking over the edge. Is there another (running) mode I haven't found yet?

Later: Ok, I tried auto-walking, then gusting to the top of each tower, then to the next, then gusting when I get close to the edge of the second tower.

Worked like a charm! :D

Zagg is the current name for the company that markets Invisible Shield. It's an extremely durable screen protector that protects the screen from scratching. Just a little drag, but usually hasn't been a problem for me.
