Newcomer / Intro stuck in chat?

I have not played in a long time. I was an original player on the Amiga in the 1980's or so

I am in a space port, and any menu option I choose goes to chat.

if I click Starport Services or Launch it just goes to local chat

other menu options work for galaxy map, ship modules, etc, pushing the 1, 2, 3 etc keys on keyboard

how do I get to the market or something?

That's really weird. If you had a HOTAS, I'd say your POV hat is stuck in the "up" position.
Or you bound the "Enter" (be it the actual Enter key or Spacebar or Mouse click or whatever you use to confirm a menu choice) to chat.
First thing I would try is to (after backing up the bindings, ideally) reset your controls to default keyboard+mouse and see what that does.

Or if you are on a console, check your controller. Something's fishy.

It's not a command. You click the Station services button that's in front of you when you're docked and then Commodity Market.

so when I click Station Services, it is not supposed to show a little chat window that says "Local". same happens when I click Launch

have not played in years
just reinstalled
said server connect error
restarted
did the open play mode
see my ship from cockpit view

can't get past this chat window thing.

Hi @cheapbooks ,

When you say you are clicking a selection....is that with the mouse or the keyboard (enter key or spacebar)?

Reason I aask is that usually, local/system chat box is usually bound to the enter key.

Might pay to go into Options then Controller and check your bindings.

I miht be using arrow keys to get to the Starport Services. clicking on the link does nothing, no response

There's your issue.

'Enter' is bound to Quick Chat.

Try using the space key to select a menu item.

SPACE, UI buttons are pressed by SPACE. ENTER is bound to chats in 99% of games today.

I recommend at least looking through the controls bindings just to see what is what, actually you should go through them anyway as not everything used to be bound and not all the default bindings suit everyone.
