Newcomer / Intro Stuck in solo mode!

Just downloaded the game today and I want to play in an open game, everytime I select this the game loads and when I press escape I'm apparently still in solo mode :/ any help anyone?

Make a hyperspace jump. You start in solo to stop a traffic jam/gank fest at the starting point. As soon as you jump, you'll be in open.

Have you engaged the FSD into Super-cruise or Hyper-drive? Apparently the game does this for brand new commanders until their first super-liminal travel.
