Stuck

I made a very unfortunate mistake and bought the wrong class of FSD for my Cobra that reduced my jump range and now I am stuck within 4 systems . It would be reasonable to have some kind of warning for that, since it is not something one would normally want to do, IMO. Unfortunately they don't sell my original FSD or any that fit on any of these systems.

I tried first to increase my jump range by getting rid of/or downsizing everything I could and managed to get the jump range up to 7.46 ly (including reducing the amount of fuel), but still slightly short of being able to escape to the next system, which is 7.58 ly away. I thought maybe if I super-cruised closer the system, thereby reducing the distance, I could make the jump but apparently it doesn't work like that. The distance for the purposes of the jump seems to be calculated from some fixed point within the source system, not from the actual location of the ship. Is there some good reason for that? When I get closer to the system it does show up as a possible jump destination on the "Locations" screen, which is misleading, since when I choose it and try to make the jump I get still get the error "Jump Exceeds drive fuel use limit of 1.8 tons.".

I also tried crashing my ship and was hoping I could get a new Cobra with a default FSD. But the only options is either to get a new Sidewinder or the Cobra with the old layout (including the troublesome FSD).

I also considered buying a Hauler, storing the Cobra and then have the Cobra transported to another location later, but currently there doesn't seem to be any option to have ships transported. I thought I read that the initial idea was that it would possible. Was that dropped or is it something planned to be implemented later?

I could sell the Cobra, buy a Hauler to get out and buy a new Cobra once I arrive at a respectable shipyard. But since I got the Cobra for free (Kickstarter reward) I don't get anything for selling it and then I have to pay around 380000 CR for a new one, which I can afford but would make a major dent in my finances.

Is there any other way to get my Cobra out of this trap, that I missed? If not then I am considering just to do a wipe and start over, even though I'll loose all my progress.

Sounds fairly bleak unfortunately :(

When you buy a new module make sure you always use the Compare feature before buying.

If you did buy a hauler for the time being, it wouldn't take you too long to get the money back, even though it's a pain in the butt.
