Studio Tour Trams as Transports

On another thread (below) I used the studio tour tram as a resort shuttle with multiple stops. However, the guests don't seem to want to get off at any of the middle stations, preferring to ride the entire loop back to where they boarded. A couple people will get off but most stay aboard.

I see this behavior with the monorail too sometimes and suspect it may have something to do with pricing? Not sure but hoping there is something obvious I am just missing.

Here are the trams in action:

Some peeps use the transport rides as a transport, and hop off at the next station. Others use it as a ride, and sit all the way through to the end.

When I go to the Efteling and ride the train, I don't use it as a transport either. I enjoy the scenery and ride it all the way around the park.

I am sure that's true, but it'd be nice if there was a way to favor transport over ride. I thought maybe playing with the pricing might help but that's probably wishful thinking.

The problem is, that in the past, people complained about it being the other way around (peeps didn't use them other than for transport).

I don't think they will keep changing it.

yeah, thats how they work unfortunately . I’ve seen it in parks i’ve downloaded. For example if someone puts a tram on a parking lot and the only way to get to the park is to take the Tram they don’t get off when they make it there they stay on until they get back where they got on. Very few people got off. It’s a shame!!!!

They should have a slider to make people prefer one or the other, make more people prefer getting off at the next station than round trip or vice versa. The tour bus could also be used as a boardwalk tram.

That's a clever idea. I think how the individual guest routings are computed would mean that we couldn't control this behavior at the ride level.

It would be great if guests could be programmed in a way that they either get off on the next stop (or second, etc.) but NEVER at the station they boarded the ride.
This way the guests would be evenly distributed around the park and we wouldn´t have up to 1000 guests riding your trains for an eternity and messing up your waiting times.

I wouldn't want that, because that would not make sense. They pay to ride the train, wherever they wanna go.

When I'm in the Efteling and I want to ride the train, and there's no space left, because others want to ride the entire loop, tough luck for me, but I have to wait for the next train.

In my most recent scenario I have a "Land Ahoy" boat ride with two boats and two stations. I noticed the same thing - 100% of the guests ride a full lap.

If you have a layout where all guests first get on at station one, the guests queuing at station two are stuck in the queue forever.

Yes sure, but De Efteling is not a game simulation. When you have a park with 2000 guests and 1000 are rideing the train or queueing for it, then your game is unbalanced.

Is it?

Or:
is the park unbalanced?
Are the queues to long?
Do you have enough trains to transport all those people?
Is the ride cheap?
Do you have to much scenery surrounding it compared to other rides?

I can name numerous factors why it shouldn't be the fault of the game. but poor park designing.

Saying it's the game's fault is the easy way out.

To answer your questions/suggestions:
The park is evenly distributed and guest are spread out through the park.
Queues are not too long as trains are arriving and leaving on a constant basis. The queue should flow.
I have shortened trains down to 2 coaches and have so many trains that one arrives immediately as the other leaves the station.
Short trains decrease station times as guests can leave much quicker. Station is designed to have the exit/entrance exactly where the train stops, so that there is no
excessive walking required.
I played with the prices and jacked them up to ridiculous amounts. Peeps still pay.
Not sure about the scenery: Is scenery around a ride effecting the guests? With coasters it´s not the case. Frontiers decision to prefer queue-theming over ride theming is a big mistake IMO.

I think higher scenery ratings make the ride more popular as a ride and not a transport.

When looking at results you can see the scenery rating when it comes to "tracked rides".

Thanks for explaining, it appears than that it might be an issue with the ride itself.

There were two changes in 1.7.0 that I think affect this behavior:

  • Guests will now take the cost of transport rides into account when using them to get to destinations they could also get to by paths
  • Improved the way that guests evaluate and enjoy transport rides when riding them for fun

I tried maxing the price of the shuttle bus at the stop nearest the spawn point so as to deter most guests from riding. Seems to not make much of a difference. Guest thoughts are still that the ride is a bargain. So what I think is happening is those quests who have a destination in mind right after spawning/entering the park will compute the most direct route and MAY take transport into consideration. But those quests who enter the park without a specific destination in mind are attracted to the transport as a ride and will pay to ride it and will ride it all the way around.
