Stuff below a planet's surface?

I was at Hera Tani's base when I saw an NPC Python land on the surface and then "sink" into it and vanish completely.
I was in my SRV so I switched to the debug camera and panned down so my view was below the surface so I could see what was going on.

It was quite amazing to see just how much stuff was down there.

The Python had already descended way down toward the planet's "core" but there were several other ships floating "inside" the planet as well as groups of skimmers and something very large (possibly an entire outpost) on the far side of the planet.

Next time you're on a planet's surface, it's worth having a look, just to see all the stuff that the game's spawning but then can't actually do anything with 'cos the position is screwed up.
Kinda makes you wonder how much extra work the game's having to do to spawn all these things which are a waste of time and system resources.

*EDIT*

And, as I write this, it occurs to me that I really should have took a screencap.

I ran across this npc having a bad day stuck in the sand. I asked him if he wanted a tow but he said nah hes got mates coming to pull him out. Then I used him as a jump, 300m double backflip, before moving on.
