Stupid Anaconda docking question.

New Anaconda owner and running around the Galaxy trading, missions, etc.

Great ship but I have one (slight but embarrassing) piloting issue: It seems that I am always scraping the entrance to space docks. Didn't have this issue even in the T9 - which, BTW, I will be picking up again shortly.

Anyway I see the bridge of the 'Conda is high on the ship so try to go in a little high but...

Am I missing something obvious? Which part of the ship should I be watching out for? I have a reputation to protect and scratched paint is not cool.

I flew my Anaconda through the airlock so it felt as though my head was about to hit the top. That usually assured that the bottom cleared everything.

If you're feel like you need to duck, you're high enough in the slot. You should be right up there, most of the ship is below you.

i had the same problem with the Cutter , after a while you will (feel) the Ship give it time and stay under 100 with 4 pips to SYS

Thank you Cmdr's.
Tried a little higher and actually got stuck in the slot...oops!

2nd try was perfect. There definitely is a "sweet spot" - high but just not too high.
Another thing I may be forgetting is the length of the beast. Have to eliminate last minute corrections, I think, and come in like an arrow.

EDIT: And someone please tell that Sidewinder pilot I am sorry for that collision I just had in the slot with him. Think I had a lag moment and my ship kind of shot up suddenly.
Should get a bumper sticker saying "Noob Conda pilot - make way!"

All good advice above. I hope this is also: the station seems to start spinning (relative to the conda) very soon after you reach the letterbox, so I'm in the habit of gently touching my stick to the right to keep the ship centred. If I don't I find it often clatters the grills before I'm fully out.

What's wrong with being a little sloppy? I almost always crash and scrape against the mail slot rails while I'm boosting into and out of stations in my Corvette. 'Tis what shields are for.

EDIT: Tip -- boosting into the flight control towers placed in front of landing pads provides a quick and effective brake for large ships, which makes it easy to dock very quickly. :p

Basically, when you pass through the letterbox, it should look like you will almost slam the bridge into the top of the letterbox, and you'll clear it. Once you get a hang of it, you'll find it easy to slid ethrough even at boost speeds. though, boosting through the letterbox into the station will probably result in a rebuy, the thing does not like to slow down.

I'd like to see some voices added for thes esort of things.

"Negative ghostrider, the pattern is FULL!"
"Oh no, you again! Brace for impact!"
"Hey, we just replaced the glass!"

When I was using it for trading the Anaconda was one of only two ships I've ever used a docking computer on. Not because I couldn't dock and land it manually but because I couldn't be bothered docking and landing it manually.

I just do 4 pips to shields and force myself through...
I usually always put up this video when this topic reemerge:

Oh, how things have changed. These days, you can kill someone inside or near a station and just sit there, laughing as the station's defenses plink away at your virtually indestructible RNGineered shields.
I believe station defenses have been adjusted for engineers now.

Frankly, guess I'll never get warm with these extremely sluggish ships where I wonder if it's already flying or still parking. Maybe after a while you get used to it but after 3 years of flying small ships (up to Python) almost exclusively this feels like pure masochism.
I love the big ships! But I love the small ships, too. Still, if I could only have one ship, it'd be big :)

Watch your nose and tilt it up when going through the mailslot.
