Stupid Feds - Thargoid invasion was your fault!

"The Thargoid story begins in 3125, almost 200 years ago. Accounts surfaced that pilots had been pulled from witchspace and attacked by mysterious octagonal warships. Witnesses said that the strange vessels were exceptionally fast and manuoevrable. Pilots who had survived these experiences were convinced they had encountered extra terrestrials.

"The named the aliens, Thargoids.

"As news of these spread, rumours surfaced that these interdiction might be a response to an earlier human attack.

"Leaked Federal Intelligence indicated that colonists in the Velia system had encountered and assaulted an extra terrestrial deputation shortly before Thargoid interdiction begin. There were suggestions that Thargoid attacks were a reaction to this initial assault."

Honestly does it surprise you. Serious hat on for a second, look at how homosapiens treated neanderthal man, how immigrant Americans treated the native Americans, or how homosexuals or those with different religions or races have been treated over the years. End of the day we do NOT tend to play well with others who are different and I truly believe if we DID find alien life either we would kill it, or we would be killed by it due to our own stupidity.

Besides it's a videogame... Pew pew would always win out even if not right away

You're quotes state it was colonists that started the original war, not the Feds.... just that Fed intelligence services determined it was the Velia colonists that began the conflict.

I don't expect the Thargoids to be anything OTHER than aggressive and out for revenge. We nearly made their species extinct with the Mycoid virus! How would you react once you regained enough strength and were able to make contact with the species that attempted genocide against you?

We could go with the good 'ol "Humans are evil 'cause it drives their existence 'n all that."

Or we can view the Federation as what it is: "The Federation remains driven by the corporations*."

Like in real life such a massive war would make a massive amount of money, and what are a few [INSER BIG NUMBER HERE] lives against profit over profit.
Just imagine the profits for companies like Core Dynamics once a big, exsitence threatening xeno-war breaks out.

But who knows maybe all the its all 'in the best intentions for the continued survival of humanity'.

But Lore aside, It's a space game with pew pew space ships not the next space dating/diplomacy simulator.

And on the other hand, so is actually infection and silence is a weapon ?

The whole reason the Federation came into existence was to protect Aliens from human violence. Maybe, just maybe the Feds should be given the benefit of the doubt. Especially since we simply don't know how this all started. Seems a bit biased to assume that Federation would be so hypocritical as to blatantly draw the first blood in an alien encounter or wantonly test weapons just for the heck of it.

"Leaked Federal Intelligence indicated that colonists in the Velia system had encountered and assaulted an extra terrestrial deputation shortly before Thargoid interdiction begin.…

a) To what superpower where the colonists aligned?
b) Did the colonists act alone or did they act according to the rules of their superpower?

Without these informations the quoted sentence only indicates that the Federation did an investigation about the incident.
Having information about something doesn't mean that the one having the information did what ever the information is about.

Just remember that it were the corporations that rebuild Earth after the 3. world war. Corporations in ED are different to the corporations on Earth in 2017.
And the Federation is the only superpower that tries to be democratic for its citizens.

As Ziljan already noted, the Federation was partly formed to protect native alien life forms.

@Ziljan: can't rep you again, so +1 VRep.

I'm hoping the update will be more than the old alien invasion chestnut. If FD do intend to move forward with established lore, we will have the Oresrians and Klaxians civil war to contend with. If the Oresrians are truly using humanity to cover their escape route, that could set up some very interesting interactions which could potentially go further than simply shooting anything that moves.

If the Oresians are setting us up to be shot by the Klaxians then neither are friends of humanity, and if anything this makes the Oresians the more dangerous and evil of the two. Sacrificing all of humanity as a stalling ploy?? That's quantifiably worse than any genocidal fascist dictator humans have ever spawned. They cannot see us more worthy than a worthless swarm of expendable mammals. The same way we'd view an infestation of sentient cockroaches.

If the two thargoids factions are out there in the black, let's hope for some more complex relationship and interesting gameplay than just pew pew.

Um, it might have been in fedint archives, but those of us who were around in '84 will remember the Feds weren't... Nor the Empire... This was GalCop time...

Even so, everyone still wants them to take it out on the Empire. The filthy slavers deserve no better.

Another A-Typical example of Federation propaganda. You provoke hostility at every opportunity. You STOLE data from Prof Palin. The Thargoids were clearly aware of your intentions as they stopped your folly in it's infancy.

And of course, your view's on slavery are entirely misplaced. The term 'slave' is, in imperialistic terms, an honourable method of clearing one's debts. EVERY 'slave' chooses to become indentured. We treat them well and ensure they are VERY well cared for.

No wonder, then, that the Federation looses so many of it's citizens to defection. :)

FD have an incredible opportunity to create an amazing twist with added longevity to ED. I for one hope they see this and take full advantage however, these things take time. We shall have to wait and see.

And dont forget , the empire had a hand in the genocidial 'mycoid' virus developed by INRA (an alliance of the federal and imperial navies), after all the empire has always leaned towards the genetic technology to solve problems
And that virus solved the thargoid problem for a while, so while they're digging through Palin's data, you can be sure the words INRA and mycoid will pop up.

And they'll view the empire as just as worthy a target as any federation world.
