Stupid question, but: "Enter Hangar".

Why is it an option? I can't take off again without entering the Hangar, going through the spin me around animation, then exiting the Hangar.

Shouldn't I just land, and be automatically swept away to my parking spot? I could see it not being automatic if we could take off again without going inside, but we can't :(

Just speculation... if you want to idle for a while but stay logged into the game and in the station but you want to be considerate and not tie up a landing pad, you go into the hangar?

Doesn't that still tie up a landing pad? I've tried docking at platforms before but couldn't because I had to wait for the AI to leave.

When you launch directly from the pad, you're only taken into the lift part of the hangar, not the hangar itself ;)

Also, with some pads, you're not even moved all the way down to the bottom of the lift, just so much that the pad has room enough to be rotated.

Ah. Still, I think it's silly I can't take off again w/o going in the Hangar, or that there isn't some option to "Auto-Enter Hangar on Docking" or something. Us traders land constantly :p

The animation is maybe a "loading screen". When you land, some assets are loaded and others are dumped from the computer memory during the animation. But it's just speculations.

Those cutscenes are annoying but there is an easy way to get rid of them. Just hit launch and then immediately "Save +Exit". Come back in and you are outside of the station and far away from it to do the jump.

for me the annoyance is that you can do virtually everything in station you need to do having landed, but you need to wait for a 10 second animation to even look in outfitting? it seems odd to use the hanger just for that (as far as regular play is concerned) but not for anything else... I guess I would rather we landed and were immediately taken into the nager via a quicker animation scene (or whilst looking at the menu), and that we could be removed from the hanger similarly quickly. to put us through the wait just for outfitting seems odd.

Well, the automatic spinning of the pad before launch is handy, since it points you towards the station exit.

Well, I guess the in-universe reason for it is that all the equipment and facilities needed to modify a ship are in the hangar. Although really, if that were the case repairs should be done through the hangar too.

since it takes so long to turn, the space station is kind enough to turn you around free of charge. It saves you what feels like about 5 minutes

The quickest way to do it is to not DoubleClick on the Shortcut to Elite Dangerous Launcher - just assume that you have already played the game.
If (by some misfortune) you have DoubleClicked on the Shortcut then try to not click on the big button labelled "Log In" but use this trick instead - click on the X at the top right corner of the window.

This will save lots of time and repetititition.

I consider it to be part of the immersion. If it annoys you so much, hit outfitting and go get a drink or something :p it's not like you'll fit your ship 10 times a day, things get expensive lol

I like that they've basically eliminated obvious load screens - like system jumps, having a black spinning immersion hole is better than a boring load bar and an inane tip about remembering to restock ammo or using the galaxy map to locate commodity trade routes or something.

This is where I say imho, right? ;)

Clever. Wouldn't read again.

come on guys - he is correct it annoys me like the 4 second countdown

just spin me round i've not got all day

Ther is a VERY easy solution to this. Every time you land, just press the "enter hangar" first, and THEN "service". You are already on the bulletin board or commodity market doing your thing, and they are still spinning the ship IN THE BACKGROUND. I dont even remember when was the last time i saw it happening. Try it, finding that out was the most awesome thing ever.

Now rep me up :D.

Edit: im actually going to post it in a new thread...

Yeah, problem is, it doesn't seem to need to "load" anything. My cpu/mem usage doesn't go down or anything when in the Hangar. I can still hear ships outside flying or being shot at :p

I use the "Enter hanger" and "Return to surface" a lot. If you know you're gonna look at outfitting you hit it as you land, then it goes on in the background while you can still browse station services, and when done, same thing. It is kinda annoying but not that bad... Also when you take off it turns you around so your thrusters are facing the blast shields, just a little touch of flair I guess :).

As soon as I land I hit the hangar button, then faff around selling stuff and whatever whilst that goes on, finding a moment to return to the surface. By the time I'm ready to go I'm facing the right way.

Seems a bit pointless on outposts.

It's not terribly bad, but pretty inconvenient when you're landing like 100+ times a day :p

I spend probably 10% of my trade trips waiting to enter/exit for take off etc. I don't know why, but large ships take like 5x longer to be allowed to take off as well :(
