Stuttering Issue? Could be your AV

My frame rate stuttering issue re-appeared with 1.3 and, as there have been a few threads on the issue, I thought I'd take another look at it.

What I found was that my AV had placed the new 1.3 executable into a significantly restricted zone. Presumably because it was new and not digitally signed. I've since moved it to the same zone as the ED Launcher (which is digitally signed) and manually tweaked some of its settings. Now...

...no more stuttering. In fact I'd say it's never been smoother!

Bit of interesting info from AV Screen:

That's rather risky isn't it.. Rather you than me, you'll be telling us you don't have a firewall next ;)

Didn't bother with one (AV that is) for some 20 years - they're gaming comps, not core banking mainframes :)

I'm pretty sure I've tried everything to get rid of the stuttering, to no avail, and every thread that pops up I just have to jump on. Sorry OP, I'm not being a bit helpful am I.

I just noticed ED's link to its Amazon Cloud server is https.

Does your ISP use a transparent web proxy?

I'm willing to put actual money on that the stuttering, at least in the form I'm experiencing it, ain't network lag.

To clarify, what seems to be going on with my game distinctly resembles constant 'microstutter', something I had quite a lot of in some games with my old SLI setup. The thing is I'm on a single GPU now and, much more importantly, all was well (bar the legendary near-planet stutter) prior to 1.3. If I switch V-Sync off, I have screen tearing like I have never seen before. It's vomit inducing.

One of the points of httpS is that your ISP *can't* run a transparent proxy to intercept it. Not without you noticing in the form of a certificate warning which you'd need to accept to proceed.

Let's leave aside what nation states may be able to do in this area... ;)
