Hi!
TL;DR I want to know if the missions are randomly transformed into planetary adventures if I scan the nav beacon or is there a way to avoid them planetary adventures?
So I accepted a mission that's ehem... 1.3M and says "go to HIP 12345 kill that dude". No Horizons icon on that mission, great. I take it.
Now last time I did combat missions was in 2.0 and I just had to select each spawned NPC in the given system until the jackpot, FSD interdict, dakka dakka boom boom with the Fer-de-lance, voila.
Now I learned by reading the mission description that you can get a location on your target by dropping in the nav beacon and scanning it, or use the disco scanner (haven't figured that one out), then you get a mail with a location.
This one mission asked me to go to another system, on a planet, on a fortress of +++ size, with authority vessels flying around, sentries, turrets, and to scan a comms array on top of a huge building with probably a catwalk somewhere. That scan would give me a target location in a third system already revealed.
Hmkay, I haven't mapped my SRV controls because I hoped I wouldn't have to do any of that, so I mapped it all, pitch/yaw on stick and mouse stick on throttle, here I go. I find the planet, I land somewhere flat, I drive for about on 8km very low gravity. I approach, try to find a way up, I try to vertical thrust up, I fail miserably, I trigger an alarm, I get sentries on my butt, I go into turret mode, can't aim, can't aim the sentry is right on top of me. I switch back, drive, shields offline, hull critical boom. I went to the target system anyway, as I had 5 min left in the time window, and I scanned the nav beacon there, hopeful, and nope. Nothing. Should have scanned the comms array on that +++ fortress.
...Right now I wish I did not have Horizons. Any advice?
