Sucicidal Elite Clippers

I've met and battled several elite ships since 2.1 release recently and am enjoying the new level of difficulty but I've had some curious run ins with elite Clippers.

Since 2.1 release I've met 5 elite clippers and each one of them has had a behaviour different to all other ships I fought.

Basically the Elite Clippers I've met all have employed a ramming tactic. They thrust out to around 2km all the time allowing me to fire on them turn and charge straight at me adjusting their course to ensure they hit me, then rinse and repeat. It's an effective if rather suicidal tactic. It's actually quite fun to fight as you play the matador against the charging clipper dodging at the last second; unfortunately with the clippers outriggers it's a bit touch and go if you get hit.

Last night one finally got me as I was too cocky, he'd rammed and hit me twice and got me down to 40ish % hull but as he was at <10% I decided to try to finish him off. Bad mistake - I only go t him down to 4% when he clipped (pun intended) me on the last pass killing himself but taking me out with him.

I've only seen this behaviour on elite Clippers but on all that I have met.

I'm curious to see if anyone else has noticed this.

I haven't noticed, but then I fly a Clipper and use a lot of boosting for sweeping around my target. I'm a constantly fast moving and hard to hit target so ramming isn't really a problem for me. However, knowing the Clippers weight and speed, I do admit I've finished off a number of very difficult enemies with a well placed ram.

They also seem to enjoy using fixed C3 weapons that hit absolutely nothing! [haha]

Hilarious!

Had that today in 2.1.02. Elite Clipper was equipped with pulses and missiles but didn't fire a single shot, just interdicted and tried to ram me repeatedly.

I used to get majorly suicidal Imperial Cutters at CZs.
Those things would do as the OP described. Fly out a few km, and turn and face you. Then boost and ram.

Very deadly. But fun.

Fighting 2 cutters at once was a test of skill trying to avoid being rammed by either one.
This was pre2.1 though, so there's no chance I could tank the fire from 2 cutters now. Lol

I had an elite clipper earlier that couldn't decide whether to fight or run. He stowed weapons, charged the frame shift, and then proceeded to get into a very one sided turning fight with me.

I saw a Clipper with PAs in the C3 hardpoints.

I almost felt sorry for it.

I had that too, pa shots went either side of my python. First shot he took was scary, following shots were funny. Just sat in front of him taking little damage.

Another I saw interdicted me when it was at 74% with shields down and half charged ( he was already damaged in SC before interdiction, guess he took a detour into the star), poor NPC suicides by ramming me twice. I didn't even land a shot.

Sounds like FD have a lot of work to do to sort out the wonderful new AI if you ask me.... I'm not sure ramming should be an AI go-to tactic... Sound broken

What's actually happening is that the Clipper is mimicking your every move, but not you're firing behavior. It's a bug, one I've been seeing since 2.1 dropped.

Played for just a couple of hours this morning and the only ships that interdicted me were these suicidal clippers. I managed to strip their shields and get them down to less than 40% hull and like a previous poster got cocky and tried to finish it off, two rams later and I was 10 million credits down. Learnt my lesson, see a clipper just get out of there.
