Sucks to be You... If you're in the middle of a deep range exploration mission.

So I downloaded the Horizons Beta, flew to a few systems to find an airless world to land on, found one that looked ripe for exploration, descended through orbital cruise and...

Brick Wall.

"You need a surface approach suite to descend lower".

So just go to the nearest retailer and buy one, right?

Well, no... not if you're like me and at least 4 weeks into a deep range exploration mission. I'm well outside of populated space, and for me to back track now would ruin many hours of exploration, and take me months to get back on track.

So yeah... if you're well into an exploration mission of your very own, and want to try out landing on the planets you find with the Horizons Beta, Good luck to you... you're pretty much screwed ;)

Why not just self destruct, go back to the last station you were docked at in mere moments, equip your ship, and head out?

Not like it effects your normal progress.

Yeah if you have been keeping up with the livestreams you would have known already. Just self destruct and refit.

They have been saying for weeks that you will need to buy the planetary module to land on a planet.
Just how far away are you from the nearest station?
I think if I were you and it really takes weeks to get back, then I would start heading back now so I am home in time for when Horizons is released.

Yup I posted a similar thread earlier. I've been out for at least three months. Just self destruct. I'm now admiring a ringed gas giant from my SRV perched above a huge ice canyon. I'm actually making a snowman right now, it's really nice. Not sure where I left my ship though. It's around here somewhere
