Suddenly lost engines in fight - ouch

I was just in a fight against a cobra in my trusty viper. Got him down to about 30% hull and I still had 68%ish and suddenly my engines cut out, no control at all, just spinning. I powered up my fsd to escape, it finished charging and just said throttle up to engage, until I blew up. Can anyone tell me what happened and what I could have done about it? Very annoying to lose my ship and the potential bounty that I was hunting!

Additionally, why don't my weapons always fire when they are charged? I had a few perfect shots lined up, press fire button, nothing, check charge, full, what's going on?

Thanks

Chris

Yesterday for the first time ever i was flying around and i had a malfunctioning power generator and all of a sudden i just had 60% power left so most things shut down on me. After 20 seconds or so my power returned :p

The clue would seem to be two hardware inputs failing (throttle and trigger). Or USB acting up.

The line on the throttle still went up and down and it showed the throttle fully on so i'm pretty sure it wasn't a hardware fault.

Chances are your power generator, or thrusters took significant damage and crapped out on you.

I guess this seems more likely though very annoying! I was still able to distribute power between systems though it made no difference!

I've been noticing some random equipment failures when stressing the ship. Seems even more prevalent when your power usage is very close to your max power output.

For example, yesterday I was flying four pulse lasers on a Viper...in the middle of the fight at multiple occasions one of my class 1 overcharged pulse lasers would just pop up with "Laser Malfunction" or something like that, and just would not fire for about 10 seconds.

My hunch is that it is a combination of load on power plant plus integrity of module.

Your lucky, I had my engine die on me 30m from docking. I've never reactivated an engine so quickly in my life! :D

Will definitely keep a field maintenance kit onboard when I start playing for real. Have the devs clarified what will happen if your thrusters/FSD becomes heavily damaged out in space? Without a maintenance kit you would have to self destruct.. Unless they come up with the space version of roadside assistance.

Well, they had the functionality in place for the distress call bringing in other ships with fuel to sell. Perhaps repair kits or repair ships would be available.

Yesterday in warzone, hubting some npc, and after take a shoot, i have my truster deasable for few seconds... I think it s a great feature, and, sometimes after, after a fire on an NPC viper, it had the same, i really like this malfonctions feature :)

you kept pointing your thrusters at the enemy and they shot them to pieces :p

You can get the autorepair module that will fix them, don't know if there's any other way to recover from this ... only happened to me in fights where I subsequently got destroyed.

Viper has unusually vulnerable engines. They can actually be hit from almost any angle.

Only time I've ever been defeated in a Viper was when my engines were shot out (causing me to drift at a heat level too low to be found by the CMDR I was fighting) and I eventually had to self destruct.

Can't repair thrusters with the FMK. FSD, yes. Thrusters, no.
