After my recent mishap with the docking computer, I thought about a station based auto docking. It would work like this:
- when requesting docking permition, you would have an additional option for automatic docking;
- it would be a PAID service, based on your ship current rebuy cost and local cargo value;
- if you accept the charges, the station would remotely fly and dock your ship (just as the docking computer does) but since it's a paid service all infractions and possibly ship loss would be insured by the docking fee;
- your ship could be scanned as usual;
- it would be an optional service for each station (just like black market or outfitting).
The docking computer would still exist and work as it does today.
