Suggest Additional Means for Merits (Help Offset Decay) - Destruction of Enemy Ships in Controlled Space

BACKGROUND: I just started participating in PP about a week and one day ago, pursuant to the time counter reflected on my profile information for Rank. I have grinded out PP points mostly in Expansion, since I like fighting more than anything else in the game, secondarily, through hunting down transport ships in enemy territory. My allegiance is with one of the characters from Empire. At this juncture in the current cycle, I have accumulated 1600+ merits, give or take, 425 of which were carried over from the first cycle where I initiated my participation. Once this week's cycle ends, which is today or tomorrow (as I cannot quite pinpoint the date of my allegiance), I will lose half of the merits gained from the initial week, which may ultimately reduce my ranking to 2, even though I have accumulated enough for Rank 3 by this week cycle's end. Of course, this is if my calculations are correct, since my experience cannot really dictate this by fact. Essentially, this is huge grind, which has already been stated ad nausiem, but with this 50% drop, albeit and notwithstanding my own issue of decay, I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to earn and maintain Rank 4 at 10,000 merits and have already read in several posts the difficulty of maintaining that Rank.

SUGGESTION: What I did notice is that I get attacked successively and constantly in my own controlled space by enemy pilots, but to my dismay, that nets me absolutely 0 merits. To help offset the decay, they could implement PP points exchanged for merits by also hunting ships in your own controlled space. After all, if you destroy the enemy ships in your own space, that ship is unable to destroy your transport ships, and that by common sense should entitle you to net Merits for preserving your own PP controlled space sparing your transports from demise. It also seems logical just in practice, since it follows the theme of PP in general. Finally, it can also expand upon the nature and opportunity of PP to afford players versatility beyond the very structured grind behind Expansion, Control and Preparation, and the undermining of enemy's intentions same further netting points to help offset decay.

Agree with this fully. I am constantly being interdicted in home territory by enemy ships and while it adds excitement and blowing them up is fun, it would be nice to gain merits for it as well.
