Suggesting: Insurance paid by the perpetrator!

How about letting the perpetrator pay the insurance if crashing into you or shooting at you while inside a Starport or docking area ?

Or the bounty for killing innocent is equal to the victims ships re-buy cost + cargo.

Would stop killing for fun without consequence and encourage pirates to only kill as a last resort.

I lost three ships so far to being rammed during combat. Little buggers realized they were about to be smashed, flip over in FA Off mode, and boosted right into me. I ticketed it, but given the extremely glacial pace of ticket responses, I don't expect an answer before the universe implodes.
If someone wants to go wrath of Khan on you, that is valid. Try dodging.

THIS! is what i do everyday when i get in my car.
And - guess what happens if someone goes "wrath of Khan" on me driving on the street?
Right, he has to pay for it.
It sounds crazy, i know ;)

As a member of the Galatic Police Accident Investigation Branch I can tell you we don't have enough resources to investigate every collision.

That´s a good point, sir.
We do have to find some kind of formula, so an electronic calculating machine could figure out the case.
This has to be done very carefully by competent professionals - since i´m only a customer when it comes to Insurancebusiness.

hmm good point. i would say the ship that has got the highest speed of the 2 maybe ...
If I'm going out the mailbox at 100m/s and someone decides to fly right in front of the box from below or above before properly angling his ship to fly into the mailbox, I'm not going fast, but still faster than him, and he's clearly at fault.

Yep, that´s one of the big problems needed to be solved ... and my solution wasn´t a blast ^^
1st thought: a kind of speedlimit inside the Starport, and a valid signaling system for departing and arriving ships ..
maybe a special kind of view you get instead of the starports hologram showing the in and outside of the mailslot ...

It's realistic that the insurance companies might want the other 95% back somehow even if only in payback :)

They pursue people pretty hard today why would they be any less vociferous in 3300?

Something like this could be partially implemented. Say in the classic scenario of one ships docking via auto-pilot when another player tries to zoom past on manual and they collide - 100% the player under manual controls fault there. Equally, though trickier to check for, if one player is proceeding slowly through the docking port (i.e. at the port first) and another tries to zoom through - both player being on manual control - then the zoomer is liable. Should help discourage impatient players bullying the more cautious by ramming them out of the way - especially if the former is in a larger ships and the latter maybe just starting out.

Doubt it'll happen, but fining the offending player (or AI, let's be fair) to recover the costs of the victim (if they die / take damage)has some merit.

another suggestion.

when we are in the surroundings of a space station one could reason you are under their protection.
and there for they hold responsibility for local safety.
reasonable would be if insurance would be partially covered by the station.
maybe with the modifier of being allied to it.

This shouldn´t be a big challenge to implement, i assume ...
Nice suggestion sir!
