This thought only really recently occurred to me, primarily in relation to Surface Scan missions......though this could apply to any situation where players need to interact with anything they want to interact with in a non-violent fashion. In the game Alien: Isolation, you have a device called a "Security Access Tuner", which uses a 'mini-game' for players to try to match symbols in order to open a security-locked door/device.....amongst a couple of other methods. So it occurred to me: "why not have a similar interface in Elite: Dangerous?" You'd still use your Data-link scanner to scan a Data-link, for example, but this would bring up an interface similar to this one:
Successfully completing the 'mini-game' within the allotted time would allow you to download the data, successfully.......without triggering any trespass warnings. The harder the mission, the more difficult the pattern match required. This interface could also be used for opening Settlement Doors (between sections), shutting down perimeter lines around settlements, or non-violently shutting down power, shutting off settlement force-fields & accessing storage areas in Settlements, or on Mega-ships or space-based Outposts. This interface, or one like it, could also be used as a means of decoding encoded messages (as part of a mission, perhaps) or as a way of decoding alien signals/languages.
Such a tool, built into our SRV's and/or into Science Modules on our ships, could give us a swathe of new ways in which we can interact with the vast Galaxy out there.
Anyway, just a thought.
