Suggestion - Advanced Discovery Scanner with Built in Detailed Surface scanner

Please can we have the above as a size 2 unit?

I am fedup with fitting two size 1 units into two size two slots (AspX, DBX, Explorerconda etc.) As it makes for inefficient builds. If I was an engineer I would offer this service to merge the two units!

Or split one of the size two slots into two size one slots?

Or even better for the 'optional' internals give us the total of units available with a maximum sized fitted restriction i.e. Cobra MkIII a total of '18' slots with a maximum of a size 4 fitted module?

I'm really interested to see what everyone thinks of this.

It's basically the way it is for balance reasons.
If you could fit both in to a single class 2, which most ships have, then class 1 slots become pointless.

Or something.

How about the ADS having the option to occupy a utility slot. The game even lists it under utility modules in the ship yard.

Honestly, why does an Asp Explorer not have 2 size 1 cargo slots, when the scanners are only available in size 1?

Just split a size 2 slot in half on "Explorer" ships and everyone would be happy. The "balance reasons" are now out of balance, because numerous new optional modules have been created, but we still have the same number of slots.

What I'd really like to see is a new Ship Computer standard module, which has hardware and software slots for stuff like scanners and the docking computer. New gameplay possibilities would be available, like viruses and malware along with virus scanners and the ability to disable a ship via attacking the computer. I asked for this years ago, how simple to just combine them and then pay 2mil for the ULTA-DISCOVERY scanner, worth every penny to a guy who needs to use more of his slots.
VERY SIMPLE IDEA.
Why hasn't it been done over the last 2 years?

This is why we need to be able to mod, we could easily make this mod.
 
Here's a solution: make larger versions of each scanner up to size 4, the larger Advanced discovery scanners would have reduced "charge" time and maybe perform a "basic" scan (so bodies aren't Undiscovered and you get the "First Discovery" bonus with your name from just a honk) at the larger sizes. The Detailed surface scanner could scan faster and from a longer range as its size increases.

This way the modules are both still required but there is a reason to buy a larger size in terms of convenience. They would of course be heavier, and would add more thought to exploration builds. Do you go with the min-maxed jumprange, or do you want the convenience?

While I am on board with combining those sensor packages, I had rather see versions that fit into the hardpoints.

Since we cannot reclaim the design spaces, give us alternatives for using them if we are not putting weapons in them. This would also lead in to the various probe proposals, since those are effectively missile/torpedo analogs.
