Today I have for the first time to decided to take my SRV down to a planet with more severe topographical features and decided to dive into one of the planet's large canyons. This is fun and all until you realise that it's practically impossible to get out again, except for self-destructing the SRV (which is not acceptable since I want to continue using it on my current trip) or cheesing the system by logging into normal Elite Dangerous to spawn in space. Neither option is acceptable for me.
In my opinion the easiest solution would be to allow basic remote control of your ship from your SRV. Let me recall the ship so that it lands a close distance, then let my fly it into and land in the canyon myself. I mean, you are able to seemingly magically teleport back to your ship when the SRV explodes, so it should not be a problem to establish a simple remote connection.
As things currently stand I don't even feel like exploring with my SRV anymore because situations like this are just incredibly frustrating.
