[SUGGESTION] Allow players to "gift" other players credits or trade between themselves.

This feature would close a HUGE hole in the MMO gap that E:D has today.

Allow players to send other players money:
- As gifts
- To pay a pirate in CR instead of cargo
- To "thank" a player for helping them whether it be from a pirate or performing a service
- To allocate funds within a Group or Wing

Allow players to trade between players/npc's
- Allow us to trade modules, but not only similar modules. bulkheads for thrusters (just an example)
- Allow use to trade commodities for modules and vice-versa.
- Allow us you trade commodities/CR/modules for services (Escort, player bounties, mission help, etc)
- Create rare or "unique" modules, ship aesthetics, commodities that players can trade for or lust for.

----------- BOTTOM LINE -------------------

What will this open up?

- This will open up new bulletin board missions allowing players to work together
- This will open up tons of new ways for players to communicate together and work for -OR- against a goal
- This will allow NPC's to give players Credit rewards for saving them a pirate attack
- This will allow players to give money for helping them when they are under attack
- This will give pirates the option to demand either CR OR cargo.. whilst giving the player a chance to "make a deal"
- This will allow players to post ON THE BULLETIN BOARD player based bounties (revenge bounties, wing bounties, etc), player created missions like escorts or wing support. Also, allow players to "prepay" to the bulletin board so players taking these missions KNOW they will be rewarded
- Most importantly this will give Elite:Dangerous the player driven economy that it so desperately needs!

Please take consideration as I'm by far not the only player that is extremely interested in this mechanic.

------ DISCLAIMER ------

This isn't a rigid suggestion.. I'm open to all forms of constructive criticism and other suggestions from the playerbase that will make this a more realistic goal for everyone.

Which would enable extortionists to attempt to extract huge sums (i.e. large proportion of insurance value) from ships with no cargo.

Of course.. But atleast it will not be seen as a sign of griefing, since most pirates will just attack to get their wanted levels boosted regardless.. Also, once unwarranted interdiction actually become more of a crime, people should fix themselves.

The problem with griefing is that lots of people have their own definition

Which may be a valid play-style and possibly better than the player/npc blowing your ship up and costing you more? Not so sure at the moment if this is actually a negative to the OP's suggestions.

Not necessarily. It depends on the mechanics involved for credit exchange. Some options that mitigate or eliminate this possibility:

* Only allow credit transfer in stations where both parties are docked.
* Give a "credit check" that you can't see the value of until you cash it in at a station. So muggers would just get $0 and have no way of knowing until they dock.

Not a bad suggestion.. I like it.

It would also open the floodgates of gold-digging for real money...

If any kind of credits transfer between players is implemented, it should be as part of fulfilling specific tasks for a player, where the game puts the credits in escrow upon the task being issued, and pays out upon completion. Like say player issued bounties, player issued 'taxi' service (to get someone from system X to system Y, need await the 'walkabout' feature naturally), player issued contracts for other players to serve as crew on their big ship, player issued contract to have another player and his/hers ship serve as escort and so on.

Perhaps even cap these at certain sums depending on type of contract to avoid transfers in the multimillion class which are obviously more desirable for the gold-diggers.

I'm not entirely worried about cash for gold.

Neither am I because it will allow me to get a Phython with grade A mods and totally eliminate all of you traders who were suckers that spent 100's of hours decking out your cargo ships ;)

Cash for gold is not a big deal in large games with player driven economies.. Games like Path of Exile have banned people from advertising cash for gold or even taking about it in game, so most players don't even now about it.

Also Frontier could regulate it by putting a maximum transfer cap on accounts.

Every mmo player knows about gold for cash, and anyone who reads this forum would hear about it really quick. Also a maximum on mail would just require someone to open a hundred different items of mail. Honestly their is very little social interaction in this game as of now, so a mail system is the last of this games worries.

I'm not suggesting a mail system, I just want to transfer money to people.

As soon as you do this it will open the game up to bots, gold sellers and credit card fraud (credit farmers will buy the game with stolen credit cards). Anybody who has played MMOs know these things are the bane of legitimate players and the game publisher.

It's a big deal and has to be considered carefully.

Frontier at this point might as well have a gold for cash system they manage. I am usually against such things in an MMO, but lets face it this game even in open mode is a very solo experience and there are no real competitive features in this game. As of now this community has suggested millions of dollars worth of improvements to the core game, and this might be an option for further funding the game.

The same thing will happen even if you don't introduce a system to transfer credits between players. Stolen credit cards will be used to buy in game currency and you will provide your username and password to the gold sellers so they can top up your account.

I was about to suggest players to be able to transfer credits too. I think there are risks, but they can be managed, and preventative measures can be devised.

I would really like to be able to set bounties on players that hang around starports like Lave and ram people as they exit the station, for example. Or maybe it could be done some other way. But some kind of community mechanic to help get rid of annoying griefers would be really welcome for a lot of players.
