Suggestion: Allow us to select different audio devices

Problem:
Currently we are limited to the single default audio device, this means that users with comms headset setups or in-ear setups with external audio are prevented from using this combination that they would use in other games.

Rectification:
Allow users to select between different audio devices in the Audio menu and allow users to select a different voice chat playback device from the main game device. This means that users using things like the Xbox One controller and headsets can have the comms audio in the headset and the game audio in the speakers.

Perfect solution:
Allow users to select which audio is played through which playback device individually as we can set the balance on these sounds already. Also allow players to set playback of the same sounds through multiple playback devices. This means players can chose to have comms audio and ship audio through either speakers or headsets and have that combined or not with the game audio such as impacts and gunfire.

Better do some mock ups to show what I mean, please +1 below.

This is an issue with many games!

I found a program somewhere that lets you send audio from different apps to different outputs.
Unfortunately,I ddon't remember the name... lol Possibly called "CheVolume"....?

It was exceptionally useful for keeping teamspeak on my headset, but game audio via speakers. Plus other uses.

Obviously, that's only for different apps, not in game.

Another idea for the user. Find out what your Audio hardware is. Ask the question with them also. But still not a bad idea.

I would love to hear the 'planet sounds' on the system map through one earphone, with the sound effects coming out of the main speakers. Isn't this a limitation on one's own system though? I normally have my audio through HDMI to my amp, but it switches off/mutes as soon as I plug earphones via the motherboard audio headphone socket.

Are we still waiting for this? People have been asking since release!
For a game with such a community focus, this barest minimum of streamer tools is absurd to not have added by now.

Yep, something that would be really adorable. Especially if somebody is using audio routing software like VB-Audio. I finally configured everything on "Potato", but you can choose smaller options. Definitely helps with some of the problems highlighted in this thread. Ability to chose the audio interface in the game would be very useful

Five years later, this is still an issue.

I cannot switch my windows sound output setting and change my audio source.

Five years later it might indeed still be an issue for consoles (I don't know) but it has never been a problem in Windows.

You can - set up your default communication device in Control Panel \ Sound:

its still a source of constant frustration. For context, I have a speakerphone i use for Teams calls, a headset to use with Elite, a Rift Headset for when i want VR, and regular speakers.
Now say I'm playing non-vr and using my pc speakers. My friend hops on and sends me a voice comms request. I plug in and don my headset and accept. They cant hear me, or my voice is really quiet. Probably because the rift headset has decided to become the default communication device, and I have no way of changing this without coming out of the game. and even when i do tab out and set the headset as the default communication device, Elite ignores it unless I restart the game. I mean, come on, its 2023, just add an option to choose input and output device in game!
