For Multicrew
ST:BC has an engineering panel which has a PD the same as ED: shields, engines, weapons.
Elite's PD has 4 pips, which are really 8 half pip because you can get half a pip. That's more configurably than ST:BC, which I think has 6 pips per system!
In ST:BC the engineer can divert power from other sytems to boost the target system beyond their max, close to double the number of pips. Each pip is worth half (or a third) of the amount gained normally.
This is something that should easily be achieved in E
, with a minimal systems overhaul because you are only tweaking numbers and you already get the two extra half pips!
The drawback: in ST:BC there is slow damage over time, increasing with more pips to the boosted system; in ED, you could have more heat output, increasing with more pips in target system!
That means heat management become an additional gameplay layer for the engineer too!
In ST:BC it is fast and entertaining.
