Suggestion: Closing system map changed to not open galaxy map

Originally posted in the wrong place. Re-posting here:
Hello,

Each time I open the system map from the left console and then close it after I'm finished, the interface takes me to the galaxy map instead of back to the left console.

This wastes a bit of time and I'm not finding it particularly useful personally. If I wanted to check the galaxy map after looking at the system map, it is the adjacent option within the left console.

If we start out on the galaxy map and then look at a system map, please do return us to the galaxy map but if we start on the left console, please return us there instead.

Probably not a particularly crucial suggestion but something for later as priorities shift over time.

Regards,
Sparks

Yeah, I'd like a choice of 'exit to cockpit' or galaxy map... or perhaps have it default to wherever you launched it from.

I do find this a bit tiresome especially when I'm exploring.

+1

This is would be a good fix! To return to the previous screen. Also being able to bind the system map to a key.. just like the galaxy map.

that's one of the items on my quality of life list that i wanted to post in an extra thread. here's the items about system and galaxy map:

- having a keybind to open system map for current system
- having a button in system map to close system map to go back to cockpit
- having a button in system map to open galaxy map
(having a button in galaxy map to open current system)

You could do all of this in Elite 1 using the F# keys. They were extended in Elite 2 so that we even had separate function keys for current system map and selected system. It worked great - double tapping the map function key alternated between system and galactic maps, and then to top it all off these function keys were replicated with a spread of icons along the top of the GUI console, so you had the choice of mouse or keys, whatever was more convenient from moment to moment..

Likewise, you could cycle through ship status screens with a single function key, viewing ALL information about your ship via one convenient key - jump range (for currently available fuel and also maximum range), cargo, passengers and crew, equipment and weapons, hull and equipment conditions, missions / contracts, skill status, awards, accolades and legal status for all factions, and more.. all from one key!

Best of all they were all immediately available - you could switch from say rear view straight to system view and on to ship status screens without having to negotiate intermediate sub-menus, as in ED.

ED's UI is just an utter trawl by comparison. You have to stop playing the game, and actively think about what convoluted route through the GUI you need to take to get to the screen you want to see. It pulls me out of any immersion every time i need to do anything..

Honestly, ED's UI might actually be easier and more intuitive to negotiate if it required multiple keyboards and mice, for different interface sections. I'm not even joking... it's that bad.

Their reluctance to re-instate the F-keys is as perplexing as their stubborn resistance to external views. At what price their subjective (and completely misconcieved) notions of "immersion"..?
