Well the title pretty much says it all (I just hope that I'm posting it in the right place). The establishment of Colonia as it's own player driven bubble is pretty exciting. While I don't want to see the region fashioned as it's own major faction, I do think the player community that drives Colonia should have some symbol of their contribution. In the same spirit that led to this new chapter in Elite history, I think that symbol should be created and chosen by Elite's community.

As an interesting bonus, maybe the symbol and "Colonia Expansion" could be added to the faction tab. No bonus, no ships, no politics, just a bar that tracks Colonia related community goal contributions with an ultimate goal/rank/title of "Founder".

No, but I have a suggestion.

Designed by a competent FD designer, based on ideas from the community.

I don't want home-made junk in my game.

Yes + Suggestion. Just use my avatar to the left. But I would make it more 'flag-like' with maybe a green bottom and white top half, and maybe flip the dragon so its facing the other way... That's pretty unique, and totally never been used before for anything...

I'm not sure this is going anywhere considering the Colonia has a LOT of community patches, badges and emblems already. There's a lot of prior artwork to call upon.

taotoo... you'll find that a lot of the community artwork for Colonia comes from one individual (Qohen Leth), and they're highly regarded for the quality of their output.
I'll just leave this thread here for example...

I started thinking about this after seeing player made paintjobs in the store. I think more than likely someone who is a professional designer and also plays the game would win a competition like this anyways. Either way, that player "junk" is already in game. Even if they didn't add the community goal contribution tracker they could make the end product available as a ship decal.

Nice link. A lot of the player made stuff that's already out there uses multiple colors. The faction emblems and ship decals are all 2 tone so a lot of what's already around wouldn't work in game. I also don't see anything wrong with someone submitting something they already made, especially if it looks as good as stuff in your link.

I'm not sure I expect it to go anywhere either but FDev has consistently surprised me with how they interact with their community so I thought I may as well try.

A cut above what most would offer for sure, but overly fussy so wouldn't work in game as the OP suggests without simplification. This is why a FD designer would have to be involved.
