Suggestion: Companion AI Modules

Companion AI Modules

Proposal
Implement A.I. companion modules that will speed up repetitive actions that users already take, letting them focus on more important tasks.

Rationale
Seems like a good way to incorporate several requests made by the users in a neat, non game-breaking format, also allowing for Online Store offers (for voice customization) and a side pursuit (to level your A.I. companion.)
Depending on implementation, it may just re-use automated process already in place for 'real' A.I. ships (chaff and shield bank usage, for example.)

Format
Internal Compartment Module (A.I. Server Bank), Class 1. Average power usage.
Internal Compartment Module (A.I. Server Bank), Class 2. High power usage.

Behaviour
A.I. Needs to be trained. Pretty useless at the beginning, taking a long time to start an action (example: Brand new Combat module takes 8 seconds to auto-target subsystem. Maxed-out version takes 2 seconds.)
A.I. Can evolve to Class 2. Class 2-evolved A.I.s can execute more complex tasks (auto-use Chaff, Shield Banks, Heat Sinks, ECM and Kill Warrant Scanners, for example.) Power consumption goes up.
An A.I. takes one 'personality' slot per Server Bank.
Class 2 Server banks can host two personalities, but they'll be restricted to Class 1 Behaviors.
Different voice banks may be acquired through the Official Online Store. (I want a japanese voice pack that goes 'Shi - San - Ni - Ichi - Hasshin!' when jumping between systems!)
Online Store only: Canopy projectors that shows an hologram of your chosen A.I. performing the tasks.

Actions
Generic (Available to all A.I. types)
Retract all (Hard Points, Cargo Scoop, Landing Gear) when FSD jump is requested
Use Chaff if attacked by gimbaled weapons
Use Shield Bank if shield drops below N%
Combat
Auto-target specified sub-module after target is scanned
1-5% bonus to weapon cool down (up to 7% if Class 2)
1-5% bonus to weapon power recharge (up to 7% if Class 2)
Exploration
When in Galaxy Map mode, suggest targets for exploration based on star type (after N seconds scanning, reports back all unexplored nearby systems with black holes, neutron stars, etc.) or celestial body appearance (N planets likely to be water-based or to bear life)
Allows for Level 2 and Level 3 Detailed Scans
Allows for longer/faster route resolution when in Galaxy Map mode
Trading
Offer best trade route suggestions based on available (visited systems) trade data.
Auto-sell all specified commodities if at profit after landing
Auto-fill all available spaces with specific commodity(ies) at specific port after landing

Examples
Nadesiko - Exploration A.I., Class 1
RanXerox - Combat A.I. Class 2
W.A.R. Mk II - Combat A.I. Class 2 - Federation Only
Cousteau - Exploration A.I., Class 2 - Only obtainable at specific Research Outposts

I really like this idea. I'm not sure of the status of AI in the Elite lore. It would really be immersive to build in voice commands and have responses. Probably a big programming challenge to get it to a level that really feels like it's a companion in your ship, but our simple suggestions would be welcome too! How much does programming Voice Attack macros take care of this?

We kind of have some basic A.I. in place already - our ships talks to us. They're just, let's say... unsophisticated. And generic.

In a basic level, I can't see why Voice Attack (and similar tools) wouldn't work if the AI action requests are exposed as simple key bindings. So yes, I agree - that would be quite interesting from the immersion POV!
