One of the best features in E: D is the flight model, so imo, this is not just a "space game" it is a "travel in your spaceship game". That's why there are so many supporters of the flight "delays"; it adds to the travel experience. I think it's also why there is so much animosity regarding the Docking Computer.
There seems to be another group (or groups) which do not actually want to "waste" time traveling. They want instant flight times, instant ship and module transfer times, and (I think) are mostly interested in combat. That's a completely diametric set of features.
My take is that we need another game mode, otherwise there will be continued whining and saltiness on the forum that will never end. I think it's what CQC should have been, so I'll call it...

CQC Mk II
- Focus is on multiplayer combat and PvP
- Instant flight times to any destination. (This might be fun for explorers too, who could visit otherwise inaccesable areas, but not claim first-found credit.)
- Instant, low-cost (or free) ship and module transfer
- Also includes existing CQC fighters and arenas (placed somewhere in the existing galaxy - with instant travel it doesn't particularly matter where they are)
- No rebuy insurance. Replacement ship is free and you start in the last station you visited.
- Docking computer is a built in option; no slot required
- Does not affect the background simulation
- Completely separate from the main game, except that any ships and modules earned in the main game are available
