The Galaxy map view appears to reset each viewing (following a jump), I assume, to a galatic north and slight top down view angle. The problem here is that this reseting of view has a tendency to encourage pilots to plot "downwards" and/or parallel to the galatic plane. Also if I set my map view direction in sight of my long term heading, then return to the Galaxy map later, I have to re-orient my view yet again to find my long term heading.
I suggest the view orientation of galatic map not be reset to between jumps other than to position your new location.
