Suggestion: Emergency Power Cells produced in Earthlike World markets

As of right now, EPCs are the most annoying commodities to get for deep space colonization, as they are only found in a small area of the bubble.

To keep their rarity, i'd like to propose adding them to markets orbiting an Earthlike world with sufficient development/tech level. This will restrict them to only a rare few systems across the galaxy, but will allow us to get at least some in stock beyond the core systems! :)

There's no point keeping their rarity when they're used like candy. I suspect their rarity is currently just a side effect of the game being in beta and the beta is tied to the bubble. Once beta ends they'll likely be made available from some planetary port type nobody wants to build.

Density near the bubble (obviously very different near the core or a long way from the galactic plane) means that it'd be very rare not to have at least one ELW within 40 LY of your position. Very few systems have them, but on the other hand a 40 LY radius sphere contains a lot of systems.

The problem with this is that the Military Economy from the Earth-likes planetary influence will just use up all the EPCs. This could work if you had the ability to chose which economy types your station takes in or ignores. It would be better if we could just do them anywhere since the current restriction is an outdated feature from before colonization that shouldn't exist anymore.

I think its a good idea, but i don't think ELWs are as rare as you think. There can be several mere 100lys apart.
I'm well aware of the ELW density lol! They are just the rarest object that consistently spawns in every area of the galaxy. HRGGs dont spawn in the deep core, O class/Neutron stars are a nightmare to find in the suppression zone, etc. Plus an ELW being able to make more unique goods seems sensible anyways, given that you need to invest far far less into infastructure and redundancy on one

My thought about why this wouldn't work was that EPCs are only produced on the surface and we cannot get to the surface of an ELW.

Are you thinking of a different commodity? EPCs are stocked by orbital stations.
I was probably misremembering something else then.
Or conflating the problems associated with several scarce (or formally so) items.

No proper thinking involved of course.

I would’ve said as a suggestion, a requirement for EPCs to be produced in colonization to require say, a high tech economy T2 starport, but I’m not quite sure about it with the current unavoidable planetary economies, and a lack of knowledge on which ones consume them.

I’m not so sadistic (or masochistic) to suggest it requires a T3 starport to make the things. Especially since NPC systems have Coriolis orbitals making them.

Emergency power cells should be producable by industrial economies. They sound like equipment that is constructed at a factory, not refined out of raw materials.
