Suggestion: Engineers "Lite"

Some of us would like a little more jump range, a little less power consumption and a little bang with our weapons. But...simply put, we do not have the time (or the patience) for an RNG grind. Still others of us...RNG Grind actually RUINS our play experience. Spending all that time just to get bad rolls...it builds resentment.

So what I suggest is a compromise: Engineering Lite.

Simply put: You fly to a station (or an Engineer, if we MUST; but again, all that travel time is wasted time we could be enjoying the game instead). You pay credits. Engineers tweak things using Sliders.

For instance, Lasers increase in damage - but also in power consumption, or vice versa. FSD range increases, but so does fuel consumption per jump, and the weight of the module increases slightly.

Shields could increase in either regen speed or overall power, while decreasing in the other. Likewise, shield effectiveness could be reduced slightly, to save power consumption of shields. Power Distributor could be made more effective and efficient, but increase slightly in weight due to additional wiring and housing required.

Simply put...some of us want Engineers we would actually USE. Engineers for people who dont have time to grind for hours or days searching for certain materials available only from things we dont enjoy doing, only to end up with bad rolls that frustrate us and turn us off from the game.

I am NOT asking for current RNGineers to be removed. Only to have an alternative method for tweaking things that saves us time but is worth the use.

Isn't Grade 1, already Engineers Lite?

"I would like to request the benefits of a feature only, please. I don't have time to play the game, I just want to play the game!"

The first tier of Engineers is already this, as stated above. It's pretty low-impact to Engi up to about partway into the third tier.

No, I dont have time to gamble away my free time on RNG slot machine pulls. I simply want to tweak my ship. You know, like an Engineer would. As opposed to a (bad) holdover copy/pasted wholesale from every bad fantasy MMO ever made.

It's not as superdramatic as you state. I've put together some really nice ships with low amounts of inconsistent effort.

Isnt that literally buying a ship with E rated modules and upgrading it to D->A ?
Credits at any outfitting for better performance from the baseline with a trade off.

If we're going to do that, I'd say we might as well go full on with it. It's already become quite a bit easier overall. I get you, the time investment gives me pause even as is, but it's one of those things where if I really want the mods, it's worth it to put the time in. Grade 1 mods are just about free as it is.

I agree with this. Grade 1 through 3 are hardly that much of a grind to get. This game is not about instant gratification but about putting in an effort to earn what you get. Credits are to easy to get to solely tie them to a feature like this.

This.

Grade 1 mods are ridiculously easy to obtain.

Now if you want to complain about the time required to keep up with the PvP scene then sure...but for the non competitive, it takes less than scraps for perfectly handy benefits.

This. Seriously, especially when it comes to RNG, why do companies think this stuff is a good idea? It has literally made me just not want to do Engineers. Because it's not worth the hassle. Especially for uncommon components that seem harder to find than the rarest stuff.
