Suggestion for a mission seed

I have been trying to think of a good mission structure to give the cheaper ships some meaning.
I would love to see under cover missions where we have to build rep with a faction in a specific supplied ship that way all ships are relevant.

Imagine if we had a ship with a bomb in it. A smuggling faction has a hidden drug stash on a planet but the fed police do not know where. They supply you with an added or sidewinder or what ever and you go to the faction as neutral. You have to do missions to get friendly at which point they give you the location of the stash in a mission.

At this point you radio the feds the location and you fly to the base arm the bomb drive out in your srv at which point your actual ship is in orbit.

Call it in and you fly away, cue big bang followed by promotion / major rep

I don't understand. Cheaper ships already have a lot of meaning. Not only in particular missions which are better done in a small ship, they are also very useful as wingmates to big ships in CZs and HazRESs, increasing the capabilities of the wing significantly. Literally, a wing with different ships and loadouts is more than the sum of it's parts.

Edit to add: That said it sounds like a fun mission type. I'd like to play that format from time to time.

I fly the smaller ships for fun from time to time but I can't agree. I can't think of a single thing the hauler or the adder can do that other ships can't (other than the hauler taxi perhaps to get from A-B)

Either way tho glad you like the idea even if not the reasoning :)

I think they serve their purpose, they are fun to mess around in, but mostly they are stepping stones. They won't stay as relevant as other ships because they just aren't, and that's okay. Even if you made missions like the one you describe it wouldn't do anything for Adders or Haulers because Sidewinders are cheaper.

I'd still like to see a more dramatic difference in scans on big ships vs small ships, but in the end that would mostly require much higher station traffic than there is now, forcing the police to prioritize targets rather than randomly deciding that they should now scan someone.

As far as actual utility for me, I use them when I'm not near "home" in one of my big ships doing a CG or following trade routes and want to build up some rep, so I pop into a little ship and run data deliveries and salvage and stuff to get rep, it's infinitely more enjoyable from a QoL standpoint to blast around in a sidey doing local courier work than it is in a Cutter/Conda/Vette and everybody always has a few small ships on sale and enough components to make them usable.
