Suggestion for Auto Docking Computers - Elite Dangerous

I just have a suggestion about the auto docking computer. There's lots of people who rely on these for docking, and that reliance results in a lost module space. My suggestion is to incorporate the guidance system that the auto docking computer uses into the HUD in such a way that if a commander has a computer installed, but chooses not to activate it for docking, the path that the computer would have taken is displayed to the commander so that they can dock themselves easier and eventually remove the computer, regaining that module space.

lol ok i was expecting a "make auto docking built in" but this took me by surprise. Not a bad Idea, I have used the docking computer once(for fun.) But I don't see why people can't just learn how to without it, but some training wheels might not be bad for newer players.

Yeah I used the docking computer for a while when I first started, now nothing I fly has it. I practiced basically by flying manually in and letting the DC take over if I had problems (usually the pads nearest the letterbox, they were always a pain) but after a while I found I could do it just as good as a DC so stopped fitting it altogether. Some people of course just don't like the mechanic of docking all the time even if they learn how to do it, it takes all sorts and no one way of flying is better than the other, just different.

ohh no doubt I just pride myself on flying and speed and such so I found the idea of me using it insulting but I’m sure space truck drivers or larger ship pilots enjoy being able to request docking and getting up to get a snack or check the web for info

Listening to the clangs and scrapes of people in Open Play made me wonder why they don't use a docking computer if they can't guide through the station entrance effectively. It then dawned on me that I often fit a docking computer for periods of relaxing grind, and that the same could be the same for others in that they grew a dependence on the docking computer, and their current setup doesn't have space for that. My suggestion is just one way of helping people train in-game in the ship that they're using. Sometimes it's difficult to judge the distance between the extremities of the ship and the gateway, and showing the recommended path from the docking computer will save a lot of hassle!

I found that I overcome this by spending weeks (and now a month) in the Deep Black. It becomes a treat for me to dock in the Bubble as I do so little of it when I'm surveying.
