Firstly: I have no time or experience organising this so this is an open suggestion for people to take and run with
The idea - Weekend or Week-long expeditions
Small, short, things people can do once and quickly. Run maybe one per 3 months or whatever.
Meet-ups would be close (within 500-1000ly of each other) but would be every 4 hours or so and time limited meet-ups. For example be at Mintaka B between 4-6pm, after 6pm head to Betelgeuse for meetup between 10-12pm.
Local exploration only (obviously). Starts say Pm on Friday, ends Sunday afternoon.
Potential problems:
-People keeping up with the fleet
-Timezones for meet-ups
Advantages
-Short and easy to join in for 1 weekend instead of prolonged giant expeditions over weeks/months
-Much less risk of loosing months of data due to infiltration of PG
It's something I (with a pretty busy work/life diary) would appreciate and get involved with as most other expeditions seem to be "the bigger the better". These small ones won't make headlines but will be good for all those who arn't sure about joining the big ones.
Anyway feel free to take this and run or ignore it. I just thought I'd offer the idea out there.
