Suggestion for Fish Special Effect item

Dear fellow Planet Zoo Players, Me and a Friend were coming up with some ideas together and decided to post one.

There has been a lot of demand for aquatics and fish in Planet Zoo since its release, however this suggestion isnt for an animal but a decorative object for aquatic life. There has been many times building a japanese pond where I have wanted to add koi fish, or when building a custom aquarium, or when watching small animals such as the otter, caiman and patipus where the thought of fish would make my build look less empty and more alive. Our suggestion is to add a fish effect.

How would it work?
It would work just like all the other special effects in the game. Found under the construction tab we already have a healthy selection of Special Effects in the game that greatly impove builds and scenery in your zoos. With this you could add a looped animation of fish to any body of water and when played it will give the effect of a live fish swimming. The fish can be simple swimming in simple circles and simply be kind of an illusion effect. The animated fish effect this would give would give any build using larger bodies of water a more lively effect in them.

Fish Species
Just like the smoke and water effect there will be mutiple variants for the player to choose from. We have 3 suggestions to add to basic game.

Koi Fish
Koi fish would fit into any asian build along with the asian props already in game. They come in a variety of sizes and colours making them perfect to be the main peice of a decorative pond. They are used often in real life ponds because as cod they are very hardy and long lasting.
These could range from 1 or 2 fish to 4 fish swimming in a predetermined loop, where layering them could give the impression of a nice group of koi swimming in a pond.

Cod Fish (Large)
For a less flashy fish we suggest a species of cod. Reusing the koi model by giving it a more natural coloured skin would give the player a less flashy option for a more natural build. This would be a the large variety of fish if you want to use them in a bigger body of water or with the bigger animals such as the crocodiles or polar bears. Much like the Koi theyd come in diffrent varieties of how many fish swim the predetermiend loop, to help layer and make it as lively as you wish.

Trout Fish (Small)
Trout fish can be used as a smaller natural fish that can be used with the smaller aquatic animals such as otters, caiman and the platipus. A smaller model varient would mean the player could add them to a smaller body of water without the effect dwarfing everything around it. and still bring the lively effect to the waters. again, could come in multiple group numbers to help variety

Conclusion
I know this idea isnt what most players would want for aquatic life, Im sure you would want a real animal or at least for this to work as a enrichment item. But I think this is a good compromise that could be built on. The devs already have the item in game meaning they dont need to create a whole new mechanic to add it and I think it would bring life to underwater scenery for our zoos and builds.

I hope someone likes our idea.

I think as an interim idea this is rather good. However, as you pointed out this is not what the community wants for fish. Personally i think that one of two things needs to happen first before fish will or maybe even just can happen. One is an actual water physic instead of just placing a surface (my by far biggest complaint with the current state of the game by the way). I always like to push my suggestion for that so here we are:

This would be necessary for large fish and other large marine life like cetaceans and sharks. It would also allow us to build much nicer enclosures for semi-marine animals like penguins, sea lions and hippos. But unfortunatly i don't think this will come for quite a long time so instead it's probably easier for frontier to go with the other solution. To add aquariums that work in pretty much the same way terrarium exhibits work. Just with fish. Personally i'd love to have small aquariums as building props so that i can incorporate them into decorations and stuff. But this again is unfortunatly unlikely.

I mean, I get the desire for water physics but considering how ... janky and slow this game gets relatively easily, I can't imagine actually having water physics. I think the most likely with the current game is the large exhibit box becoming a water cube basically, and fish of moderate sizes are bought from the exhibit animal section. That would sorta be in keeping with zoos that don't have a dedicated aquarium area and just have fish tanks of various sizes.

I've made this point again and again, it doesn't really need fancy water physics. Just enough to get a flow simulation from a water source to a drain over whatever landscape you happen to have. As soon as the simulated flow reaches the drain you can just pause the simulation and only restart it when the edge of the water surface changes. At most you'd get a little lag when filling up particulary large or complicated basins.
Stuff like this has been done before. Take Wildlife Park 2 as an example. Even frontier itself did that before in roller coaster tycoon.

Hey id preffer if you didnt try to plug your own idea in someone elses thread. Especially if its unrelated to the idea.
That said, This has nothing todo with making up a whole new physics related mechanic and trying to add some filler in for before we could potentially get actual fish. This would allow for aestetic koi ponds and non-predator affected fish props to make your habitats and such more lively!
Itll be nice for building and making decorative water or semi-aquatic water habitats feel less empty!
It is completely unrelated to large water fish and cetaceans and just a visual prop just like the current waterfalls, mist, fountain and falling leaves effects!

This whole idea also comes from being more performance friendly and easy to implement for the devs, and not rework a whole system of the game.

Do you guys remember how the lizard enrichment item was implemented in Zoo Tycoon 2? It would run around aimlessly and not require any food or care. I do believe there was an Artic Cod enrichment item too that swam around randomly and could be hunted by specific animals. I used these items as enrichment sure... But I also used them as decorations to make my zoo feel more alive.

I don't think these objects would be difficult for Frontier to implement into Planet Zoo. They could add fish, frogs, lizards and ducks to the game this way. They'd serve as an enrichment item, but also a decorative piece.
