Greetings All,
Let me start off by saying that I believe that Elite: Dangerous as an IP has a great future, but I think that in order for it to have an even greater future it needs to have financial stability. In reading the current annual report from Frontier Development I can see that it is currently creating IPs on a very lean budget. This is a good thing because what everyone has seen from their current IPs with their current budget is incredibly impressive. That being said, I am hopeful for the future expansions concerning Elite: Dangerous. So onto my suggestion.
I know this suggestion might not hit the correct notes for everyone, but I think that it would lead to increased revenue for Frontier Developments and lead to some risk mitigation for future Elite
angerous development. Given that, here it goes.
I would suggest that there be an introduction of a subscription for Elite: Dangerous. This subscription would be completely voluntary. Since, I live in the U.S., I think a price of $10 a month would be a fair subscription price. The subscription would include one (1) skin of the players choosing each month. These would not be exclusive. They would only consist of the ones in the Elite: Dangerous storefront. The subscription would pay for any follow-on expansions to Elite: Dangerous. If for example a player starts the expansion one (1) month before a given expansion is to arrive the subscription would not qualify for the total price of the expansion at retail price and would therefore be available to the player at a lower retail price (whatever the amount has been paid in their subscription) or would be available to the player upon reaching the full retail price at a later date given their total subscription amount.
I suggest this for the following reasons:
1. It will allow Frontier Developments to get monthly revenues.
2. It will allow Frontier Developments to get a better overall idea on the current number of players that support Elite: Dangerous.
3. It will allow players that don't want to pay a large upfront cost for an expansion to get the expansion via the subscription.
Again, I know this might not hit the right notes for everyone but I think it would allow the developers to get revenue and secure a better future for the game.
Cheers,
