Suggestion for planet based starports

I've just been trolling around a port/base on the darkside of a planet, the storage yards were huge, the skimmers and goliaths were zooming busily here and there, the loading cranes were all atmospherically lit by searchlights and the base announcer was chirping up like some manic railway announcer.....all VERY atmospheric...and despite having played since Alpha days, and in all my extensive travels it was a particular base layout that I had never seen before.

All very impressive, then I got to thinking; apart from driving around in my SRV sightseeing, there was NOTHING to do.

My humble suggestion:

Just as window-dressing, could the Dev's procedurally scatter things to do on these bases for the casual visitor? i.e. cargo hidden in the storage yards (for the taking..or not), data points to be scanned with minor rewards (or penalties), live cargo container areas guarded by skimmers, mysterious restricted areas guarded by searchlights and klaxons if entered, and anything else anyone else can think of..... just thinking out-loud...these bases are just so fantastic... graphically, atmospherically (especially in the dark), it seems a pity just to use them as refuel, re-arm and trading points.... such a waste of game assets (Driving the SRV around some of these atmospheric bases seems "almost" as good as what having space-legs will be like.....plenty to SEE......but sooooo little to do!)

.... Then there could be missions for players...commanders to hire on and protect cargo areas, and other opposing missions to break in and....err no...perhaps I'm getting carried away......
