[Suggestion] Home Base

Some commanders like myself, like to set up shop in a single location and use that as their home base of operations. My suggestion is to make that a little more official and to give benefits to the commander for doing so.

A commander can nominate a station as their home base. They would do this through the Contacts tab with an option that says "Set here as home", or something similar. You could have the added challenge of only being presented with the option once you are Ally with the controlling faction.

Once a station has been set as home, the benefits would include:

  • 5% decrease in cost of items in the commodity market
  • 5% increase in payment for items in the commodity market (although of course there should always be a gap between the buy and sell price or this would be open to abuse)
  • 5% increase on the pay-out of missions from the controlling faction
  • 1000 ton storage for cargo, perhaps restricted to legal items only
  • 1000 item storage for Materials
  • 1000 item storage for Data
  • Modules in storage at any other location can be "sent home", for a price
  • Decal with the station name or logo
The cargo storage would enable commanders to play the stock exchange so to speak, so they can buy and store items cheaply and then sell them later at an increased price without having to use their ship storage, or risk loss of items. Storage of materials and data would enable the ship's storage to be emptied, so if they wanted to stock up on a particular item, they could. If you're doing a swap out of modules away from home, you could go to the Storage option and as well as being presented with the option to "Transfer to ship", you would have "Transfer home".

A commander would only be able to change his home location once every, say, 6 months to prevent abuse of the market benefits. To change the location, they would have to Ally with the controlling faction at the new location, and would have to pay a shipping charge for any items in storage. Simply go to the Contact page at the new location, choose "Set here as home" again to be presented with a "Are you sure, it will cost x Cr to move storage items" etc.

Nice idea, maybe 'freindly' minimum and if your relationships go down, your advantages will dissapear, less storage, no decal and no buffs to trading

  • Active Bonus: 5% Reduction in repair, rearm, and refuel costs.
  • Active Bonus: 25% Reduction in Ships and Modules being transferred IN to your home station.

Good idea. +1 +rep

Not too sure about the cargo storage, but if it's limited, it's probably OK (1000t might be too much). But the other benefits are really good, I've added labels, and some additional bonises to your idea, see below, and above for more information. :)

I was actually about to suggest having a "storage locker" for your excess materials and data, your idea covers that already.

I'd also suggest the 6 month rule be reduced to just 4 weeks, not really for any reason, other than if you regret your decision, you don't need to wait too long to move, but it's long enough to prevent any issues.

Another problem I've thought of, is if the controlling faction changes during your "lease", this could provide to be awkward if your new faction is your enemy. Lol
So, if the controlling faction of your station changes, you are free to move home immediately, or rep up with the new controlling faction. However, you would not be kicked out, you would just lose the Active Bonus until you hit allied with that faction.

Other than that, cool idea. :)

I did think that as I was typing it. Perhaps 500t would be better

I agree actually. I do tend to be a little harsh with things.

I hadn't actually considered controlling faction changes, or reduction of reputation with the controlling faction. I like the idea of losing the active bonuses. Perhaps if you're an enemy of the faction, the active bonuses could be reversed so there's a penalty - perhaps 5% increase in costs in the market etc? I think that things should be kept simple though - the more complex the rules become, the less likely it is to be considered... not that I'm really expecting anything of course! :)
