Suggestion: Immersion Movie clips for shipyards

I know this seems kind of minor but would add a new simple layer to VASTLY improve the game immersion.

As the OP here I would like to request your "I hate it" or "it won't work" comments sever no purpose with a realistic reason why you don't like it or when it needs to make it work, so think first and focus on adapting it to a better suggestion. I even account for those that don't like as the last line of the whole post.

Plan:
In the Shipyard when flipping through ships that is all the same... added will be a "Sales Video" button. Selecting will open a full screen option video file (included in the local user install to limit network lockup or quality loss) that can be stopped by pressing the 'space' to quit the video. This would show in a larger display of the station until it is done. This makes it effective for all players including VR.

Content:
The videos will be a short sales presentation from the manufacturer that would contain the basic features and maybe a "common use" note. The description in the video can say if it carries fighters or have a small ship cargo bay... How many seats and if a NPC can be assigned to it.... Basically, all the things that would be important for a person about to spend a big chunk of cash on a ship would want to know. The sales pitch would be presented in the way the common use would be... as example, a Dolphin would have a theme to passenger carry but that several interesting souls are using them for deep space mapping... Or a Dropship would have a military theme but does indication some private cargo agents buy them from time to time.

Added concept:
  • Could add in "for the basic starting low cost of.."
  • BuyA) Can add in a bit of 'real immersion' by adding in interactive "Buy this ship now" button that actually activates the ship sales screen
BuyA+) Can create a closing by manufacturer if the user actually clicks the "Buy this ship now": video sales stops and closing the deal video started, for example a Lakon Spaceways might have, "You have expressed a interest in our fine Lakon Spaceways product! Excellent! You are now being directed back to the local agency!" and the sales screen comes up. COULD add a closing "no buy" which is the same as the space but comes with a marketing add for the company like, "We here at Lakon Spaceways are sorry we were unable to meet your needs for a safe and profitable life, perhaps we can interest you in one of our other fine products?" with a list of other related ships they make... Again, depending on how deep you want to make it they can click another ship from that list and get the advert... BUT if it is a ship NOT found at this station there would be big red disclaimers that have something "THIS SHIP IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS SHIPYARD"
BuyA++) If you are going all out for immersion it would be basic to add to the "THIS SHIP IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS SHIPYARD" a "Click here to find your nearest dealer" and if they DO click on that it will find any shipyard within 100LY that carries that model of ship as in a non-permit station. If no station is found there can be text stating "You appear to be farther than 100ly of a stocked shipyard" ... if they DO have a nearby shipyard that carries that makes it will appear as a RED ship on your Galaxy Map as a bookmark.
  • This type of video short could be added as part of all the Commodities, of each of the ship modules with images of each size and how they would look, etc...
  • Media videos can be added to the web page increasing page use.

Conclusion:
So although it is a simple video with links, like youtube already have, but adds full interactiveness to the players and the game.
I would not be adverse to doing a advert voice over, and Ruby Suki offers her sultry voice for that as well...

-There should be a 'Disable in-game Video Presentation screens' option for those that can't use it or don't want to use it

sounds very much like the way Star citizen does it - not that that's a bad thing, what Star Citzen does in the promo videos is very clever and incredibly immersive.

anyway, I would love this idea to be brought to Elite. Would mean that prior to adding a ship to the game, Galnet can have the promo video added to it say 2-3 weeks in advance and get the hype going.

There are several fan made movies that come close to the idea.

And I suspect it could be more than 150 videos if the complete idea was implemented. And they COULD just do them as text based and not hire a voice over (but voice over would be better)

Not only videos for the sale of ships, but I'd like to see animation added for the repair of ships - and painting of ships. For example, currently when a ship has been damaged due to combat, there doesn't appear to be a lot of damage visible on the ship. Ideally, it'd be nice to see deep burns, dents and missing pieces of armour exposing sections of the hull. In space dock, instead of a simple button that repairs everything instantly, it'd be nice to be taken to the ship location - similar to when outfitting a ship - and see the ship being worked on. Perhaps automated repair arms repairing the hull, and eventually spray-painting the body work. The repairs, depending on the extent of the damage, should take several minutes - and the commander would not be obliged to watch the repairs, but could go about his business at the station - mission board, passengers, etc.

That kind of ceases to be a movie and becomes a graphically variable programming when the un-altered image of a paint-less with varied levels of messed up paint and damage to be displayed.. Now, altho that IS a cool idea that would be a totally different kind of imaging.... And no easy way to present it.
