Hey guys I'm not sure if this is the right place or if I missed it but i was both thrilled and disappointed earlier when I checked my status. Thrilled i had become "mostly harmless" but disappointed that there was no indication at the time.

I come from the 80s where at least one incarnation (elite gold) had "Right on Commander" pop up at the appropriate time - and Everquest where a level up had a very loud and very definite "ding" sound (so much so many games now call it "dinging".

I'm sure its a real third world issue but it would be a nice addition at some point.

I wouldn't mind if this was a 'Notification' that appeared up in the top-right notification box, similar to bounties and such; shouldn't be that difficult to include in a patch either.
Yet having this as some instant gratification thing would be difficult as it appears (for Combat and Exploration) that the landmark Ranks have a delayed reaction to what you've done... a good example was I uploaded something like 40 Systems worth of Exploration data, only to remain Mostly Aimless; it wasn't until about an hour or so later I noticed it had finally changed to Scout.

The same is true for the Combat Rating, as it seems to take a while before what you've done appear to have an effect.
I can't tell if Trading is the same as that appeared to be literally tied to the Cargo Hold available, as when I bought a Type-6 it was only when I'd increased my hold above 100Tn it suddenly hit Dealer, irrespective of any of the actual Trade Stats (which if that's true, I hope they actually fix that to a more aggregate Trade value based on the Statistics)

Mind when all is said and done, I actually hope there is never any 'noise' notifying you about Rank increases (be it Combat, Trade, Exploration or Faction) as that would be a bit to 'Game-y' for the feel of Elite.
A simple notification would be more than enough so you don't keep checking with perhaps a data underneath the Rank itself to let you know when it was achieved (that could be disabled in the options)

Raven, I'm pretty sure Trade status is dependent on total trades. I've been trucking in my type 6 for a while, and have just increased to merchant (no increase in hold capacity).

I also agree with the OP. Some feedback would be nice, especially from the navy ranks (if you're doing them). Promotion should have some fanfare and not only matter if I bother to look.

It really kind of does only matter if you look because upping ranks gives a person exactly and precisely nothing beyond self gratification.
