I'm on my way to Sagittatius A and have alot of time to think.
So I was cruising away to a star 150.000ls away and was thinking. What if i get destroyed here. I'm loosing millions of credits and weeks of play time.
Not to mention all those systems where my name should be glued on. I know many explores have asked the same question.
So I thought of a solution. I don't know if it is mentioned somewhere, sometime but what about this :
Why not let us buy an escape pod. It uses some power, weight and uses up an internal compartment.
So you see yourself in an usesless situation like ... a destroyed canopy .... You have three choices :
- Enjoy space for another few minutes breathing the fast escaping air while rethinking your fatal move.
- Commit suicide and push the selfdestruct button.
- Push the eject button.
So you push the eject button offcourse :
Your ships launches the escape pod and at the same time sends out a distress call.
This distress call has a certain range (maybe 250,500,1000ly? depending on the class).
So everybody who is in range receives the call and can start a mission. The first person who accepts the mission can rescue the poor soul.
The mission is to fly to the desinated star/coords and scoop up the escape pod (or maybe destroy it, if you're evil enough or the pilot has a bounty on his/her head ;-) )
Then you have to bring the escape pod to the nearest station where he/she is released and can continue his/her game.
Positive on this is : your escape pods computer keeps the logs of all the systems you scanned. So you don't loose anything. Maybe the rescuer receives some extra cash or maybe a share in the profits of the explorer data the rescued player has.
Negative : You can be stucked away in a cargo hold until the rescuer let you go =)
I know, it needs some more thinking and tweaking but i would love this feature. It gives something to do for other explorers (maybe it's not a player but a npc you have to rescue? Hell, you could even rescue a Targoid
)
