The sounds your ship makes vary according to damage taken. For example, heavy FSD damage might cause the engine noises in supercruise to be intermittent and add a struggling buzzing type noise, or hull damage can cause creaks, groans, buzzes, etc depending on amount of damage.
Additionally, I would love to see, for example, power plant damage causing fluctuations visible in HUD brightness. And perhaps we could go further and reduce performance of damaged modules as well (e.g. reduced speed an maneuverability from damaged thrusters, or even uneven performance causing unintended pitch, roll, or yaw that must be compensated for).
Essentially, it would be cool if we could 'feel' damage to modules and hull in the sounds and performance of our ships, just as we can with our cars and other real world vehicles. It would increase immersion and realism, and provide a mechanism for alerting you to module damage without a cumbersome glance at the right panel.
