I had an idea a while ago for a new multicrew role, a "navigator", who could plot routes with more advanced methods, while the pilot just concentrates on flying. For example, being able to plot routes with multiple waypoints, or being able to plot individual jumps for specific cargo or fuel levels. This could allow an exploration ship with a large tank to make longer range jumps by keeping its fuel tank low, but still be able to traverse fields of non-scoopable stars by fully refuelling beforehand. It could also allow for traders' loop routes to be plotted automatically, rather than them having to open the galaxy map each time.
I think these routes should remain plotted if the navigator leaves the crew, but would be lost if the host logs out or changes modes, requiring them to have another (or the same) navigator return and re-plot them.
Additionally, I think it would be a good idea to allow players to save frequently-travelled routes, so that instead of them being computed every time, they are simply loaded and checked for feasability (jump range, permit locks, etc.)
