So... uhm.. in that case..
What's stopping me from keeping a sidewinder at:
- every material trader...
- an interstellar factors outpost..
- obsidian orbital (just for laughs and aliens)
- at a station close to engineers to almost insta-pin blueprints
- near barnacle sites
- near Dav's Hope equipped with a planetary hangar
- Colonia.. for non cargo-related quests
- and so on.. you get the idea...
What you're proposing is a more elaborate way of fast travel basically
On that note I do support an idea that they should allow us to have one more commander slot so people who are into deep-space exploration can take a break from time to time.. but I suppose the reason we don't have that atm is that they're concerned about multiple people using the same account and digging into their profit

Having solo people buy multiple examples of the game is much better business-wise, no?... so while I hope we'll get something like that, I don't have my hopes high..
