Suggestion: Predator Vision

(I originally posted this in the general discussion and it was suggested that I put it here) Well not for being an actual predator though I suppose it could be used for that. I'm thinking more for exploration and mining purposes, adding a feature that would allow the cockpit view to sweep through different electromagnetic spectrums like ultraviolet, infra-red, radio, microwave, gamma, etc. It would give a bit more depth to seeing astronomical features or prospecting for minerals. Could also be used in combat though perhaps with very controlled effectiveness to prevent it being overpowering.

I think adding scanners equipped with different spectrums would add immersion to the game. Although, one would need to balance power and usage of such things. It would be great for exploratory ships.

Yes visual enhancements would certainly add more depth to the game.

I remember someone suggested at some point that a night vision mode for avoiding collisions in Res sites would be helpful, possibly with a terrain mapping overlay similar to what was in Halo 3 ODST

Or this real life technology for helicopters

Switching to "night vision" in a dark RES (eclipsed by the planet) would be freakin' awesome. Maybe the energy weapons look different in a different visual spectrum, and the ship wakes glow because of the heat.

I was thinking a head-tracking spotlight feature would be useful for the same scenario - particularly for those with Rifts or TrackIR - but either would be good.

For the dark RES sites I always wanted a sort of wireframe overlay. Either that or a proper floodlight (with bat signal over lay of course heh).

This is what made me come up with the idea, I was sat at Sag A* and really wished I could see all the gamma and x Ray emissions that must be blasting out of this thing.

I'd love to see different sensors toggle different spectra.

It would help for everything from exploring (x-ray, ultra-v to detect black holes/pulsars) to combat on the dark side of the planet (infared to detect other ships, or just nightvision).

+1

+1 YES. Any real exploration ship would have this!

Great, I like to see something like that too. Brain read data as a concept out of time but visual data are more like moment present
