suggestion: retrieve lost data as a in-game feature

Hello

As everybody knows, exploration is a lot of risk for a not-so-big profit... so I was thinking:
A nice option would be that, upon being destroyed while returning from a long trip, or simply hitting a roid somewhere at the edge of known space, or simply being destroyed by a wanted somewhere while coming back into human space, all the data of said CMDR would not simply be "lost"... but be salvaged in a data-cargo (a bit like a black box). It would then float in space there forever.

If the CMDR so desire, he could always go back to the place the incident happened, and loot back his own data.

eventually:
- only the CMDR who lost the data could pick it up (to prevent abuse). = though to abuse any other CMDR would then have to know where the first CMDR got destroyed, good luck with that.

I think it would be an interesting thing adding to the game play of being an explorer. If you explode, you can always get back your data, but you'll need to return where you lost it and come back... it's a fair price to pay.

It's just an idea.

Hey there, great idea.

i came to this forum to post a similar idea but with a bit more game play possibilities around it.

So here we go:

When a player or a specific NPC ship is destroyed there is a chance (or every time) that the black box of that craft is a scoopable cargo item.
Now this can be collected by the player themselves if they manage to get back before the item degrades or is destroyed. It cab also be scooped by another Player Commander.

So the idea behind the black box is similar to yours in that the data can be recovered minus a percentage for radiation damage or something. This even goes for the Bounty vouchers.
If a different player scooped it they could utilise a special module to scan the content and retrieve your bounty vouchers and exploration data and sell them either through the normal channels or through an expansion of the black market.

This gives people a chance to get at least something back when destroyed and also sweetens the deal for Pirates, Bounty Hunters and Smugglers.
Black boxes from NPC ships could have exploration data and unclaimed bounties or even include data of trade routes or initiate special missions.
