We currently have the following upgrades available for our shield generators:
Enhanced, Low Power Shields
Kinetic Resistant Shields
Reinforced Shields
Thermal Resistant Shields
But none of the upgrades increase recharge time, whether broken or unbroken. Some of the mods slow it down.
I flew my Diamondback Scout the other day and was impressed by how well it handled heat. I'm thinking that I will mod it to use for smuggling. But there's no point putting on a reinforced shield because it will take longer to recharge after silent running. Like mirrored and kinetic armour there's no point in having the equivalent shield generators because you don't know what the enemy is going to be using.
It would be great though to fit bi-weave shields to it and mod the regeneration rate so I could use silent running more frequently without having to worry about the time it takes to recharge my shields. Although FD might not want to do this if they fear that it makes silent running in combat effective again.
They could also create fast recharge shield boosters to go along with it.
It could also help traders run away. They could then have two choices. Either mod for as much shield as possible if you fly a slower ship, or mod to fly fast away and switch into silent running the moment your shields go down without having to worry about being shieldless for too long afterwards once they escape.
