As I've seen, there are numerous threads of people that expect the 3rd person camera of the multicrew gunner role to be unplayable in VR. I am afraid of this as well. What a pity as I was so excited about flying with my collegues in the same virtual ship.
I'd like to suggest an easy solution to the devs:
Instead of directly switching into a 3rd person perspective, let the gunner sit in his chair and look at a large screen in front of him. That screen then shows the 3rd person view of the ship and the hud.
Let the player look so close at the screen, that it nearly fills the full screen. So not much screen space is wasted. This invokes the feeling, that you are looking at a screen showing the video stream of a camera, orbiting the ship instead of you yourself quickly rotating through space.
What do you gain with this solution?
* You avoid VR sickness, cause the player still has the feeling of sitting in the cockpit.
* You add a lot of immersion (also for non-VR players)
* You avoid destroying the fundamental concept of elite dangerous, that all action is done from 1st person view.
* You can later add further roles for multicrew (engeneering, scanning, etc.) with the same concept. The pilot looks out of the canopy, the other crew sits next to him but they look on their screens, seeing everything they need.
What do you think?
(PS: Sorry for bad english. Not my mother language.)
