Suggestion- Supercruise boost

I would like to propose a suggestion and see what everyone thinks about it. The idea is a boost for supercruise, which works by holding down your regular boost button. When activated, the computer would display the message, "FSD operating beyond safety parameters" and fuel would drain rapidly. There would be a bit of feedback and instability in flight, but the acceleration and max supercruise speed would increase. Minor damage could occur to the FSD after extended use. The overdrive could be an optional purchase or standard. Zero throttle + boost would result in faster turning and blackout mechanics. Ships using it would have a different color wake. I was thinking that the audio effect could be an extremely unnerving shepard tone combined with metal stresses.

Pros:
Another incentive for extra fuel tanks and repair modules.
A way to catch up with ships for interdiction or get away if you're paying attention.
Reduced travel time in supercruise to most stations, except the exceptionally distant ones due to massive fuel constraints.
A break in the monotony of spaceflight and an extra feeling of danger.
A way for explorers to dump fuel needed for jump range.

Cons:
More stranded pilots getting greedy with the boost and losing track of fuel or destroying their FSDs

Been suggested before, by almost everyone, including me. Lol

I'd like it, it's much better than simply hyperspacing to another star in the system.

I also like that you put in some risk Vs reward. Most people just say "make supercruise faster!" Lol :D

Not really in favour as they'd likely link it to some engineer mod and involve some convoluted resource gathering that only those with suitable time could pursue. As far as I am concerned anything that requires an engineer is tiresome and is thus ignored. However if it did not include some engineering and was purely a mechanic you could adopt at some risk to your ships integrity, then I could live with that. But you know you will likely have to fly to huttons several times to get several things that appear randomly and then randomly use the engineer to randomly do something. All this after youve hunted for some permit somewhere. Probably. :)

Yes, I quite like this suggestion. Just something to add a bit of variety and options.
Be interesting to tie this in to interdictions - perhaps if you time the boost right while trying to escape it could allow you snap out of it much more quickly, get it wrong and you'll fail the interdiction immediately - possibly with more damage and loss of control.

It's a good suggestion, but I think that overall speeds/acceleration/deceleration needs a buff in supercruise anyway. I just can't help but feel like Quantum Drive in Star Citizen looks so much better, and gives a much better representation of speed despite only being like 0.2c.

I like that. When I'm being interdicted I usually go to the blue range for maneuverability, then punch it when I get the alignment right. But I have no idea if any of that actually helps or if I'm just convincing myself. It would be neat to actually be able to boost out of an interdiction if it were *perfectly* timed. But it has to sound like your ship is tearing itself apart to do it, and a failure should drop you out without shields.

Good idea. I'd like an emergency reverse thrust to bring the counter back to 6 rather than continue dropping below as an option if it became an engineer mod.
