I didn't see this suggested in the past few pages but it may have.

Can the back button on the system map be changed to take you to the galaxy map or add a new button for this function. Right now both the exit and back buttons take you to the nav panel with seems redundant. During exploration trips especial this would be helpful vs leaving the system screen selecting the galaxy map to plot the next leg or jump.

I use a game pad for flight so have limited binds so the nav panel is where I access ship control but even keyboard/ mouse users might like this too.

I am aware of that :D
Of course when you access the system map from the nav directly both buttons exit back to the nav. Going to the galaxy map first it all works like a hierarchy but not from the system map which it should imo.

Hitting the hot-key for either while in the map will switch maps.
On PS4, if you're in the system map and you press Triangle-Left, it will switch to galaxy map.
If you're in galaxy and hit Triangle-Right, it will switch to system map.
Best part: NO LAG
